Halo Infinite in third-person

Hello everyone, the game is incredible, it looks great, but I think it is time to make changes in this great saga, for example putting a third-person option would draw a lot of attention to new people who do not know this saga. I have played the entire Halo saga since the original xbox until today, and the truth that the last two Halo (halo 4 and halo 5 guardians) have been a failure, I don’t say it, the news says and even Microsoft itself , what I mean by this, that we must attract new people who do not know that this saga exists and a good way to do it (apart from good marketing) is a third person option because it attracts more attention, an example is the FORTNITE and other great sagas, and I am sure that if they do so they will sell more and the Halo infinite will be enjoyed more, because I know that Xbox game studios if they do that the game will be spectacular, and to be able to see your own personalized character It is incredible, and besides, the first person games are getting outdated, because so I want skins if I can’t see myself, I only see a rifle and two hands grabbing it. It is my opinion and I believe and I am sure that if they do so it will be very good video game and more with the quality that it has and the good work that this great company does.

What exactly has a third person option to do with sales? Looks more like a “Game X has this popular feature - it doesn’t matter if this feature fits into this franchise, lets just copy it and see what happens” request - and the only thing I can say to that is -No thanks-

Halo is a FPS (except a few situations like when you’re using a turret) and hopefully it will stay this way. I’m not a fan of copying things for the sake of copying without any good purpose. Seeing your armour is not a good reason to change the whole game fundamentally, at least not for me.

Other than that - FPS Games are certainly not getting outdated. The Shooter Market is huge and almost every big game has the first person view. (Halo, Counterstrike, COD, Apex, Battlefield, Rainbow Six Siege, Doom, Overwatch), so I honestly don’t get this argument.

Halo is a first-person shooter at its core.

Adding in a feature because “Fortnite does it” is the last reason for 343i to add in that feature.

Also while this will bring new people, it would drive off all the Halo Veterans and I mean those who started with Bungie

This guy’s Favorite Word is Saga and he hates Periods.

Fortnite is a “saga”? Since when?

I’m pretty sure it’d drive off more than just the Bungie-era people.

You don’t just make a game third person because Fortnite and Gears of War did it. First, third, and top-down/overhead views aren’t cash grabs. They’re specific ways the devs thought they should best approach their titles.

For example: Spyro was third person because they thought it would be cool to watch yourself, a dragon, run around and do dragon things. Warframe was made third person because you’re a space ninja, so you’d want to watch your character model do all the cool and agile tricks and what not. Halo was made first person to quite literally put you in the armored boots of the hero. That’s often why first person shooters are made.

The view isn’t like game mechanics which can be swapped in or out. Changing a first person to a third person because another company did it is only going to push away the people that still want to play it in favor of maybe getting a few hundred to a thousand people at the cost of a few ten thousand or hundred thousand.

I have always wanted a third person option for Halo. It gets my vote. We get to customise our spartans or elites but never see it, I would love to see my custom character in action. The game changes to 3rd person when picking up turrets and driving, so why not have the option to switch to 3rd person view ?

That’s a strong no for me. Keep the main series first person. If they ever do third person, it needs to be it’s own separate game, don’t just add a third person mode to a game designed for first person.

Well there’s also the post-game carnage reports, and in Halo Reach you showed up in the cinematics, so not exactly “never”.

Third-Person would ONLY work for Machinamas or unique Custom Games. That’s it. Having it elsewhere wouldn’t be proper to this long standing franchise, let alone 343 bringing back classic feels without requiring modern mechanics as best as possible. Sure there’ll be new things, hopefully not too much that gameplay changes into something Halo isn’t. Take Guardians for example. Mostly flair, not enough form. Yet I still walk and shoot like it used to be, without relying on Bip Bap Bams to get the job done.

This would probably make less people like the game. Too many already hate just having sprint alone.

Yeah, as much as I liked a lot of the things Halo 5 did (I’m indifferent to Sprint myself, but I don’t like Charging at all), I don’t think massively changing how Halo plays is going to get new people to come in and start loving the series, let alone people who “never heard of it before”. If they didn’t know about it now, why would changing things make them suddenly and magically aware of it? Besides which you’d have the situation of driving off older players to appease new players that might not even stick around for long. Then you’ve netted yourself a lose-lose situation. You drove off the old players to bring in new players, only for them to abandon the game.

We never see our custom characters in the game while we’re playing, only when driving or carrying turrets. I was not talking about cut scenes, just game play.

Here’s an idea. Leave the mainline titles in first person. Develop a tactical 3rd person Halo shooter using ODST lore. ODST was a semi-tactical game anyway. You get the best of both worlds.

If they allow a 3rd person camera mode in one or some multiplayer modes I would not care. It would change the gameplay much more than you think.

Halo doesn’t need third person, if anything it will just drive a substantial amount of veteran players away.

Would I be mad if an option is added in? No. It balancing it would require work. I think third person would work but it’d have to be a toggle in the game mode menu so all players are third person. Could lead to even more custom game and social ideas. But fundamentally halo is a first person shooter and main titles should be treated as much but I’m open to a potential third person halo spin off

guys, you have to accept that Bungie doesn’t work for microsoft anymore, and I say a third person option, not because I have it fortnite, what I want you to understand, that I’m also a veteran of Halo I’ve been in this community for almost 20 years and Halo 4 as Halo 5 have been absolute failures, and the game needs radical changes, if I want a first person shooter game, as most say, then I would play counter strike, overwatch, Cod, battlefield … and by the way the battlefield V other failure … a game that is spectacular and has been a real failure. It is a personal opinion, but as there are many people who think the same thing, and what 343i or microsoft cannot expect is to live from the past and we are in 2020 with a next gen on the way, there are a thousand first person shooter games, and if Halo failure in the past is for something. You can’t always be living from the past, a clear example is the Gears of war. I understand that Halo is the essence of the first person but I talk about having both options, you have to accept the changes for better or worse and evolve, which we have always been stuck in the past.

The game “needs radical changes”? Ironic, given radical changes are precisely what contributed to Halo 4’s rapid drop in population. Sure it sold fairly well, but then when people saw how massively it changed (Almost universally for the worst, but Dominion was kinda cool.) they didn’t stick around long. I’m sorry, but while I’m not exactly on the “Change is Bad” boat here, I fully disagree that Halo needs these sorts of changes to stay afloat. If anything that’s drilling holes in the hull.

“if I want a first person shooter game, as most say, then I would play counter strike, overwatch, Cod, battlefield” This works in reverse too. Want to play a 3rd-person shooter, there’s already games out there like it. No need to say Halo should change because you personally think it’d be totally neato to have those changes made.

“343i or microsoft cannot expect is to live from the past and we are in 2020 with a next gen on the way, there are a thousand first person shooter games, and if Halo failure in the past is for something.” I’m having a very, very hard time interpreting this sentence. If anyone else has a better idea go ahead and fill me in, but what I’m getting from it is “Halo needs to be vastly different just because they can.” Halo didn’t ‘fail’ because of it being a FPS. Halo 4 it was all that nonsense like Killstreak Drops, Perks, and so on. Being first-person had nothing to do with it.

“you have to accept the changes for better or worse and evolve, which we have always been stuck in the past.” It’s not being ‘stuck in the past’ at all, it’s just sticking to the genre it’s known for, and “Accept the changes no matter what” is a pretty flimsy argument.

I know a lot of people may not like this, but I like the concept of a third person mode. Not sure what it would do but I think it would be cool for things like Machinimas and analyzing movements. I know Theater mode does it, but then again I’m a guy who likes seeing armor so sue me.
