So I originally brought up the fact that Halo 5 received free e updates was due to the fact that they monetized the game. If people don’t want to have 343 monetize their games, then we’re going back to paid dlc, which splits the community. I would rather have free gameplay additions, new maps, weapons, etc and skip out on the optional cosmetics.

Lot of flawed logic used to make some actually decent points.

Well organized, very concise at times (loved seeing the original DLC chart with prices, great reference points honestly props to you :+1:). You actually make a lot of great points, but the arguments are a pretty hyperbolic and short sighted or don’t take into account a ton of ulterior factors.

It would be great to see this topic fleshed out a bit more. It currently reads like a biased gaming journalism piece, it could be so much better and far more encompassing.

This is a bit of a stretch, and one that’s difficult to unravel due to how you phrased it.

Multiplayer is free attached to Game-pass or not. Similar (but not comparatively identical) to how Apex is free. If you have Origin Access (EA’s subscription service) you’re technically paying for a free game, but to offset this they include some freebies in the title, similar to how Game Pass includes monthly freebies in Infinite (arguably a better system than EA).

It doesn’t mean Multiplayer isn’t a free standalone experience if that’s specifically what you pursue, however there are factors that include it in a paid experience.

This is a stretch. At most they’ll sound misinformed. Hypocrisy is something deliberate. Contradictory statements run rampant within this community, I’ve been guilty of this in fact. But to suggest someone is hypocritical for defending or even just playing passive, then maybe saying something that might contradict their stance in some way, is hyperbolic.

It’s entirely human to have some grey area outside of your black and white stances.

“I’m going to choose not to spend money on the game”

(proceeds to not spend money on the game)

Defense achieved my dude

Prophesying (without proof) the title will cut players out for not buying entirely optional cosmetics :white_check_mark:

Opinion, which you’re allowed to have, but conjecture nonetheless.

$60 for a campaign (regardless of unlocks) seems par for the course.

Game pass is optional to play this title :white_check_mark:

Can’t be taxed (as a consumer) on an initially free product :white_check_mark:

Regional prices only affect prices :white_check_mark:

looks at Louis Vuitton bag

Huh people will pay a stupid amount of money to play dress up.

looks at Halo Infinite store

I’m a little surprised it took this long for the rest of the typical “criticism denier force” to show up here.

Why don’t you guys go play the game you love so much, instead of wasting time trying futilely to shut down anyone who dares try to actually make the game better? Seriously, it’s like you guys are on these forums way more than you actually play the game.

its the internet doing this is appranrly what the cool kids do (which it really really shouldn’t be a thing like at all)

come one, come all. let’s heart this post in which sums up mostly everyone’s feelings on the customization and monetization

I am just going to say (not defending or rejecting just making a point)

All of these stats for what we paid are in different eras of gaming.

Granted this is not a good look on them, but I do believe their will be a change to the prices.

And look at what there parent company has done with the “pay for cosmetics model”

They should just be careful and re look at the prices

It’s really only a dozen or so of the same people in every thread trying to belittle and badger anyone that isn’t worshiping 343.

I’ll just save everyone the time so they don’t have to read or relive that statistical break down of halo’s past DLC’s and cosmetic unlocks…

None of those games were free to play…

None of those games will last 10 years because what happens when everyone buys the game? :skull_and_crossbones:

Steady money flow = micro transactions = steady servers, updates, content, etc.

I love this :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

These aren’t microtransactions, they’re macrotransactions. And introducing a store like this doesn’t mean they have to gut things like color customization and these prices. Also, I highly doubt the game will last 10 years even with a store. Part of why games get abandoned overtime isn’t just because there isn’t a steady money flow, but because newer games come out, and people migrate to those. Halo Infinite feels fresh now, but it won’t in 5 years, let alone 10. I mean, why aren’t you off playing Halo 3 instead of Infinite? The server are still up for awhile longer. Surely it’s not because 3 lacked microtransactions.

Thank you. Inflation has not risen so much as to make these prices reasonable for the measly amount you get for it. This is amazing. Great post, well thought out. Nothing more needs to be said

And a huge chunk of the Halo experience goes out the door. What kind of a stance is that?
“These are 100% cosmetic items. You can play Infinite multiplayer - and experience everything Infinite has to offer - by spending exactly $0”

Meant to reply to op. Hello op, whassup

We are and we will play the game. Instead of complaining so much on forum boards, why don’t you play another game that makes you happy. You’re not going to change the F2P model no matter how much you whine. You guys just drown out the forums and legitimate criticisms about the gameplay tent to get ignored

Well halo 3 (original) doesn’t have new maps and will never get new maps. Infinite will get new maps.

My thing about paying $60 for a game’s multiplayer is that eventually no one buys when everyone owns it already.

If halo 3 had a store and added new store cosmetic content then maybe the company would see fit to add new maps, modes, content, etc, yada yada yada :sleepy:

If the game ain’t making money, then they’ll just work on other projects as investment. Sure Microsoft is a big corporation, but why would they just throw money away and lose money by paying people to work on a game that ain’t producing the dough :money_mouth_face:

You can’t be serious, maybe I’ve missed some context here.

People did buy the DLC for the game, as well as the “expansion” ODST. They stopped making content despite having sold additional content.

Also, with Forge it does still get new maps. Forge is probably one of the best features for Halo map wise. But even if they did release new maps, I don’t think people would have kept playing it forever. In many regards it feels dated. It looks dated too. Games get old. That’s not a bad thing, and it still has its charm, but people want to play new things after awhile, which is a big part of why new games are made.

Also, the gaming market has kept growing since Halo 3 released. They could have tried to market it to those new gamers, and could have tried to continue to sell new copies. But it’s hard to sell people on a 360 when the Series X just released and there are games far newer with newer features. The same thing will happen to Infinite regardless of if it gets new content.

This being said, I’m not against them selling certain items to prolong what lifespan it does has. I just don’t think they can prolong it for 10 whole years. And I don’t think basic customization features we’ve had since Halo 2 should have to be taken away to monetize the game. You want to sell charms, new armor made for this game, new color patterns (not colors themselves), new visor colors, armor effects, etc. I’m for that. Just do it at a reasonable price. But don’t take away old armor or color. You’re not going to win over people who like customizing their Spartan since 2 by doing that.
