Wrong because back then, gaming wasn’t mainstream. Steam didn’t yet take off, gaming over internet play wasn’t even mainstream until H3 and CoD in 2003.
You can’t just say Halo doesn’t adhere to the same rules today. Today most of the most played games in the world are on Steam or supported by it. FF14, Warframe, Destiny 2 just to name a few. There’s also CSGO, DotA2 and other less popular games like Paladins. These are the games which have thrived thanks to their accessibility in no small thanks to Steam.
If Halo wants to make it big, it would indeed be a great idea to F2P it and make it accessible on Steam, AND IT DID. IT DID FOR 1 MONTH.
After that, it bled almost all its players down to 3k~ we have today. If your argument is that Xbox will carry the game, well then why isn’t Halo even in the top 10 of most played on Gamepass? Answer is Infinite is failing on all fronts.

Controller pooping on M&K where they can’t even compete is the biggest issue Halo faces. If top tier M&K talent could have been on the mainstage with the likes of Lucid and Royal 2, the PC community would still be here.[/quote]
It’s not the biggest issue halo faces. In fact, I’d say it’s perhaps the smallest issue halo faces.
The majority of players are not lucid and royal 2. The majority of players are probably on an Xbox console. Using an Xbox peripheral,
I’m using steam numbers as a gauge, not a statistic.
Steam being the most accessible global platform for gamers holds alot of weight when it comes to game popularity and health. I’ve even given a few examples of games which were made into powerhouses and are maintained due to the fact they are high scoring games on Steam.
The fact that Xbox numbers aren’t counted don’t matter : the gauge based on its general overall popularity is bad, reflecting in Gamepass rankings as well. I’m not caring if you support 343 or Infinite, but I feel a need to clarify that my gauge using steam numbers and popularity is not unfounded.
That math doesn’t add up.
Highest peak was 272k
Lowest peak I’m seeing it drop to is 1.75k
272k/100%= 2.72k
Therefore 2.72k is 1%
So basically Infinite lost over 99% of their population on Steam in 7-8 months roughly.
Also i find it funny how they say that when you look at the top free games section in the store its not even in the top 10 you would think if it still had such a thriving playerbase it would be in the top 10 and would be having quick search times but we’re starting to hear that players search times are starting to take longer
Thats not how you math it.
You wouldn’t choose the lowest number peak when its gotten higher than that after.
You’d go by the most recent peak players as an estimate.
The PC ports can some time after launch is my point, genius. In the context of this information your corrections are utterly invalid.
Here’s some advice - instead of barging in on conversations you don’t have any understanding of, why don’t you read the whole conversation to save yourself commenting something utterly useless in response?
A good chunk of players would be on more with the inclusion of a few more ranked game modes. Like some players don’t necessarily even care that much about cosmetics. They just want a game mode they like, and an avenue to work towards somethings that brings them satisfaction while playing. Which can also be in the form of rank progress.
-Get slayer out of the current ranked mode, give it, it’s own slot. Shouldn’t be hard…it’s already IN the dang game…
ranked tac slayer…its already in the dang game…
ranked doubles…i mean…how hard is it to set max team size for 2v2?..it would be NICE to get specific maps tailored for 2s…but thats asking for too much and just 2v2 alone on what we have would at least be a start
ranked snipers…because why not? Isnt it there already!?
Etc…there’s so many game modes to have for ranked and unranked with settings that make sense tnat really differentiate why you’d chose social or ranked over each other depending on what the player wants.
I had a long drawn out debate in the forums during h5…about maximizing playlists…and the argument someone presented was this.
too many playlists divides the player population and runs the risk of there not being enough players for searches.
My counter argument was this…
the absolute BEST time to have the MOST playlist is at the BEGINNING of a games life cycle…closely after launch…this is how you KEEP existing players…if you don’t do this…players lose interest…base population runs thin…then you CAN’T have more playlist because NOW that runs the exact risk of spreading the current population thin…so wth are they waiting for!?
For real…the heck is the hold up…from launch people were asking for their favorite playlists…where are they now?..most of them aren’t here anymore. They can give a crap less about it coming out in season 10 or whatever arbitrary number they decide to release it in…when the game briefly held their interest was the opportune moment…now they’re on a different game. Halo is in far gone in their rear view mirror. Once again…a missed opportunity…to late…history repeats itself…
*it’s weird I’m allowed to post a reply to this thread…but in another it says “awaiting moderation approval”…anyone know why that would happen? First time I’ve seen that when I’ve written something here.
I had that issue in the psst i think its due to the length of a post as when i had a long post i was replying to a series of posts using the quote feature after not being able to post it i just gave up and vowed to not use too many quotes in a single post
Ranked isn’t gonna save Infinite either. 343 really dropped the ball when they made the conscious decision to let 6 months go by with no content update.
That’s right. 6 months. Playing the same build for 6 months. No weapon tweaks. No fixes. No shuffling of playlists. No new maps. For half a year. That’s the main reason people left in droves.
And right now, we’re nearly at the end of another 6 months of THE SAME THING. They added 2 new maps and 2 new modes and… nothing. Like can you expect a Live Service game to even survive like this?
And the final salt in the wound is that Desync isn’t even confirmed to be a priority fix, despite majority of the playerbase still playing are mainly playing Multiplayer. Like jesus they are BEGGING to fail at this point.
If it ever says ‘Awaiting Mod Approval’ most likely you have said a “questionable thing” or you tried to circumvent the Yoink censor. For instance, just yesterday I typed something that made my post need approval… the words were something like this: “People are really but hert about this” After rereading my post, I instantly figured that those two words were the only problem. So I went in, changed the questionable words to something similar but not as “vulgar” and reposted my post and BINGO, I didn’t need approval anymore.
If you can’t find what is making your post need approval, you might wait anywhere from 1 to 3 days for a mod to finally put their eyes on it.
Try typing “but hert” but instead of purposely misspelling it like I have here, try spelling those two words correctly and posting it. You will get the “Need Mod Approval” warning. You can delete the Approval Request and repost your comment correctly if you want to avoid the waiting time.
