Halo Infinite Gameplay Impressions

The Good

  • Really like the dynamic between Chief and the guy driving him to the halo ring. Reminds me of how Chief acted in the first three games, and it feels like Halo. - Digging the grappling hook. It’s an earthy, gritty way to do sci-fi action and I’m a fan. Reminds me of the grit of Halo: Reach. - Liking the return of Halo 3-style equipment. I’m biased because Halo 3 is my favorite, but I like the equipment model better than both Reach’s armor abilities and Halo 5’s Spartan abilities. - Glad you guys kept sprint. I like the no-sprint gameplay of classic Halo games, but deleting the mechanic from a modern FPS would make it feel out of touch in comparison to competitors. And it would make me feel old to play a no-sprint modern FPS, which would obviously serve only to cater to older fans. - Throwing fusion coils is freaking awesome. - The mini-map is a great idea for exploring the Halo ring. - 60 fps AND four-player splitscreen? Awesome! - The whole vibe feels more like Halo than Halo 5’s vibe did. Glad it’s less Hollywood and more mysterious. - Shooting the Brutes’ feet to slow them down is a cool addition. Nice attention to detail. - The Mauler’s design is better than it was in Halo 3. In Halo 3 it was just a weaker shotgun, but in Infinite it seems to have more distance, like a revolver. - Looks like sliding has been added? I’m a fan. Always liked that in Destiny, and it’s a mechanic that just makes sense. The Bad

  • I hope the in-game graphics aren’t the finished product. The style is slightly better than the cartoony, sporty Halo 5, but they look like an unfinished version of Halo 2 Anniversary. - I hope you guys didn’t delete the entire Promethean class of enemies, weapons, and vehicles from this game. To me, that was the distinguishing factor of the 343 Halo games (besides Halo Wars), and it would suck for you guys to trash them just because some fans get cranky about them. Plus, I think the Halo 5 Promethean weapons sandbox was fairly balanced and distinct from the Human & Covenant ones (N.B. I’m a casual player). - The Brute villain at the end seems kinda lame. In the original Halo trilogy, the villains (the Covenant) had complex motivations stemming from adhering to a dogmatic faith against increasingly hostile reasoning about the nature of the Halo rings. I hope this guy is more “holding onto the Covenant’s broken promise” and less "me hate good guys."Those are my thoughts. Looking forward to the finished product!

The mix is ok at 100% hope to see the final version

Maybe I’m wrong bit I’m pretty sure sliding was in Halo 5

I really liked Hyperius. I was gettingrgetting sick of the whole zealotry to the forerunners as a motive. I like that the banished has basically won and this guy is still seeking satisfaction in a glorious battle to define his legacy. It’s relatable, in a sense. And we’ve never had a villain take a particular interest in Chief, aside from Cortana (but that was more like a weird love thing).

The evil guy says something like “the Harbinger and the Banished share the same goal.” I think the Harbinger is probably Cortana and her Guardians, and if that’s true, then you don’t have to worry about the Prometheans being gone entirely.

I think the gameplay has the potential to mirror whatever we want it to once we find out more about the upgrade system. There’s an “upgrades” tab when chief opens his map.

All in all, I thought there was a ton of awesome stuff in that demo. As long as there are obvious fleshed out major battles, the potential looks incredible to me when you sprinkle in that openness and some random experiences.

I’m 100% digging the storytelling approach so far too. The pelican getting hit by the AA during the pelican landing was amazing, and I can’t wait to see what else we experience like that.

i would like to see sprint gone and a higher normal movement speed implemented. this can hold up in modern times no problem.

Read my post above. I bet you can play campaign that way if you want to through the upgrades tab, and equipment.

In the 2019 E3 trailer they showed chief had a new AI in his helmet and today didn’t see the new AI I’m really hope master chief has AI tells him to do stuff like the past halo games

having the option to select between a static speed enhancement or sprint armor module in the upgrade module would be ok i guess. but i think the bms still could be faster in general.
