Halo Infinite (Game Pass PC) is STILL crashing

I’ll give y’all a clue for the PC players out there.

Memory Leak.

When campaign came out, I was able to play with no issues. Took a break from the game, now I can barely play 1 minute before crashing. Tried every possible solution I could, but no luck. I also opened a ticket but I don’t think that’s gonna help, they just need to recognize the issue I guess.

Happening in game-pass version, 2080 Ti.

I’ve taken a long break from playing Halo infinite on GamePass. (I’m an ultimate subscriber and I prefer campaign mode.)

My hardware specs have not changed. I fully completed the campaign 2x times in December before my long break. (Once on very-hard or whatever the name, and the last time on Legendary.)

win10 pro
3080ti evga ftw3
9700k 5.0ghz OC

A few patches for multiplayer were released in between my 3-week hiatus.

My friends are finally ready to play, but they are using the free edition on Steam for the Multiplayer pack - Coolz.

Loaded up Halo Infinite yesterday 1/19, and i can’t resume a single Campaign save or Multiplayer match without the entire game crashing silently to desktop from the “loading” screen.

Game consistently crashes during the map-loading background.

I can’t get into any game, no campaign, no multiplayer… I can remain in the Halo menu just fine… Tweak game settings etc, seems stable.

Min fps 72.
Max 144fps
vsync enabled
Preset is Ultra

(Never had a crash before back in November.)

Eventviewer → Application log sucks and is very vague.
Blah, blah, faulting module: kernelbase blah blah blah, haloinifinite.exe.

Re-installed the GamePass Halo Infinite.

Changed to a different installation directory on a DIFFERENT SSD just in case.

Changed my graphical presets to LOW out of curiosity.

disabled/closed the following apps I always run
msi afterburner,
nvidia Overlay geforce experience, closed,
razer central,
Steam,
Discord, closed
Asus Sonic Suite,
Corsair iCue,
CITRIX Workspace App,
Logitech G Hub.

All closed -

Re-installed the latest Nvidia geforce drivers 511.23 (clean install)

Game still crashes during load-screen.

Menu screen is fine, music plays fine, menu stuff looks good.

Same behavior - If I attempt to load a previous save-file from my campaign,
Crash to desktop, no error, no bug-check…

Eventviewer logs the same vague nonsense.

Reddit post mentioned to disable INTERNET CONNECTION, and retry the game.

Game works now.
Campaign loads just fine.
All of my completed save-files on GamePass load just fine.

Reverted Graphics Preset back to Ultra, 144fps etc.

Thus far, Internet Connection must be disabled.

I must disable my network adapter, and HALO infinite will play saved games just fine.

What the hell is going on here?!

Can someone with knowledge on the matter explain to me why this is the only way I can play this game 3 weeks later?!

So, disable internet connection to play Halo? Is this a fix just for campaign? I don’t see how disabling your network adapter would work with multiplayer.

This is just for campaign, correct… This does not address the core issue, (unknown,),and yes, Multiplayer is completely impossible.

My game never crashes to Desktop during map-loading screen as long as my ethernet adapter is disconnected before Launching Halo Infinite or perhaps I block the game from communicating via firewall rules… (I haven’t tried this yet, but I may.)

I effectively can’t play online, at all with Halo Infinite.

What is this game doing on the network that’s causing this I wonder? I can’t be the only PC gamer with this issue… OC on my 9700k doesn’t make sense as an issue.

This game was absolutely stable for me, for at least 2 months… January, dead in the water and my hardware/software hasn’t changed.

Gotcha. On the gamepass version I don’t have issues with campaign, just have issues with multiplayer. So I have both the gamepass version to play campaign and the Steam version to play multiplayer. Doesn’t make sense.

I’m downloading the Steam version of MP to see if I also have a different experience… Will report back here shortly.

I just wish there was an official tech support or developer response on the matter if its wide-spread wonkyness with PC installs still.

Also, is this the official place to complain for tech help? Theres no official help on any game install within Gamepass itself.

Google searching isn’t all that helpful, this place just appeared more official lol rather than going to 343industries.com

I know for me, I have to set my gpu clock and memory clock as low as afterburner will let me. That only applies to gears 5 and halo infinite. Every other game I have runs fine on an over clock. Even the MCC. Maybe try that.

OK - I’ll consider that, I let typically let my 3080ti ftw3 do its own thing based on MSI custom-fan curve, but sure, Ill curiously downclock it too.

Also, I’ll limit the fps to only 60.

Previously, I’ve only nerfed the Graphics presets to LOW, but left fps to reach 144fps.

As a good control, I will max settings first on Halo-Infinite with Steam edition like i did with the gamepass edition, and work downward from there.

Let me know how it works for you. I have an Asus 3080 OC Strix, and I’m able to run a light OC of +60 core +200 mem with Halo. Anything higher than that and it’ll crash. Weird thing is, I normally run undervolt while gaming yet Halo still doesn’t like that.

Steam Mutilplayer version failed as well in the same craptastic way:
Set all settings to highest preset.
vsync enabled fps max 144 / min 72.
(Same preset I have for GamePass edition.)

Match attempts to load, and crashes during the load process - Right back to my desktop, just like the GamePass edition.

Downclocked my GPU, power-limit 91 CoreClock -502, MemClock -502. (Voltage untouched.)

Game Options - Low Graphics Preset, FPS max 72, Min FPS 42.

Game attempts to load, crashes during Map load process. (At the point of when it crashes during load percentage is random, but I never reach 90 percent map load,)

No difference.

Halo Infinite just sucks I guess? I can now only blame Nvidia’s latest driver perhaps?

The gamer in me is frustrated and doesn’t want to bother troubleshooting further, the tech in me wants to know I’ve exhausted all possible variables.

Went back to Gamepass edition, kept the same GPU downclocks on the GPU profile via MSI afterburner, loaded up Campaign, tried to load a completed save-file, same issue. Game crashes during Map load screen.

Right back to Desktop =)

Haha, i give-up - I’m coming off of my high of playing Metro Exodus and God-Of-War and, League of Legends and can’t play a single game of Halo infinite.

I disabled my network adapter, and naturally the GamePass Campaign loads and I can for well over 25mins or more until I quit.

Guess I won’t bother trying to launch this game any time soon! Tech support doesn’t exist, and its just all of us folks with issues sharing ideas (which is cool) but this isn’t bring any of us closer to a solution.

One saving grace, I didn’t spend money on the title, so I do appreciate GamePass for this…

I can try grabbing a driver from November (My Original driver I kept until January which seemingly is the only true software change since.)

That sucks, man. Seems like 343i only cares about BTB and their store. No word at all from them about this issue. I have the newest 500 series driver and the Steam version still works fine for me, still same problem with game pass version. Just had a LAN party and played mostly Halo Infinite and for the most part, it went fine (all Steam versions but one Xbox Series X player).

This happened a few weeks ago, had to completely reinstall. Took a few days off from playing the campaign only to come back to repeated crashes. Current on version 1.3295.45279.0 , I refuse to have to reinstall this game every time this happens. I’m glad the DEVs are so concerned with their cash cow “store”, it would be nice that they address this issue and fix it.

I got an email from support last night, saying they released an update but the update does not include a fix for my issue lol.

Hi there,

The development team released an update for Halo Infinite. The update does not include a fix for your issue, but we’re following up with you to ensure that the behavior you reported is still occurring as you originally described. Please reply and tell us if you are still experiencing the same issue in the new build.

Still crashing. Tried all of the “fixes” absolutely nothing.

They actually haven’t even tried fixing it. No mention from them of a fix or a problem, they just ignore it.

Yep. I’m certain they have no idea what they got themselves into with this project. So much spaghetti they can’t figure it out.

After that email I got from them, it’s clear they’re just rolling the dice. I mean why tell me they released an update that does not include a fix for my issue, but check and see if I still have the issue?

Is there any update/patch notes from them anyway? I can’t fine anything. That’s one thing I praise PUBG for, their patch notes. They go over everything they fix, and everything they’re still currently working on.

343i, take notes…

Yea, they pretty much just gave me the generic response email and said well it’s noted. They are probably checking back because “an attempt was made”.

Did you get that email last night? The last update that I know of was the 19th, and that was just for BTB but failed.
