Intro
First off, before I get too deep here, I want to say that I absolutely adore this game so far. The way the weapons feel, the general feature set, the graphics, it’s all beautiful, fun, and honestly just about definitely my new favorite Halo gameplay-wise. That said, of course, nothing is perfect, and so I still have a lot of feedback to provide from my weekend spent engulfed in the game.
Feedback/Suggestions
- Expand the Carnage Report
The Carnage Report has long been one of my favorite features of the Halo multiplayer experience. At the moment, the Carnage Report is sadly very lackluster. It no longer provides such info as who you killed most, who killed you most, tool of destruction, average life span, and many other things. While far from perfect, Master Chief Collection’s carnage report does provide quite a bit of info. Going deeper, Infinite’s should be similar to MCC’s in the info it provides, as well as letting you view players’ spartans and being able to scroll between the players by pressing the left and right bumpers, which was not a feature, either, in Infinite’s flight. Also, I do hope the Service Record returns in the full game as well!
- Spice Up the UI
To clarify: the in-game HUD is amazing. While running around and fighting, the HUD looks fantastic. Unfortunately, everything else in the UI is incredibly bland. The menus’ designs and more lack much personality at all and simply feel like a series of sharp-edged squares and rectangles with very little personality to it. Navigation itself could use some work, as well, but making the UI of the menus feel more like a representation of the games’ overall feel and general vibe would go a long way toward making the game experience feel more fluid and friendly to players upon first starting and returning to the game.
- Allow XP Gains Outside of Challenges
I do really like the challenge system in Infinite when it works. When I played the Flight, the daily challenges did not refresh each day outside of the “Practice Makes Perfect” one which steadily increases (an idea I love!) However, Because of that, it was only possible for me to reach Level 9, despite playing just about every waking moment all weekend. It would be nice if there were more XP possibilities for simple match completions in the final game, as well.
- Grenades Should NOT Glow on the Ground Unless HOT
\When I kill an enemy in Halo Infinite and they drop their grenades for pickup, I often jump back or run away because the way they glow on the ground makes it appear as though they are “hot” and ready to explode. They are plenty visible enough as it is without the glow, and thus this should be removed. Perhaps make it an option in the settings for accessibility purposes.
- Bring Back the “First Strike” Medal
Getting a First Strike in Halo games is a very satisfying and exciting moment, and the absence of the medal is surely felt in Infinite. Similarly, the “Last Strike” medal should come back as well, as it is a nice compliment and very fun to get the combo of both.
- Add Teammate Collision
Being able to phase through teammates takes me out of the game a lot, as well as reducing potential fun moments (like jumping on each others’ heads) and providing potential for unfair plays where players crowd together in a single spot. There are of course counters to that, but nonetheless, there should be collision with player teammates as in past games. Sidenote: betrayals should be possible after the match ends, as well. During the match friendly fire does not need to be on.
- Have the Radar Tell You If Enemies are Above or Below You
At the moment, the radar only tells you if enemies are on the same elevation as an enemy. As helpful as this is, it would be preferable if the game could have slight arrows, like in Reach, that tell you specifically if they are above or below you.
- Medal Idea: "Snaked"
Just a fun medal idea I had for when you grapple a weapon off of a pad/rack right when an enemy (or a teammate!) is near it to grab it.
