So first let me start off with this. I’ve been playing Halo since Halo C.E. in fact as a kid I even compared it to the Iconic Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. So I go back a ways. No I’m not an e sports gamer, nor do I play competitive. I’m just a regular guy, who may have looked down a reticle once or twice.
Am I going to be comparing it to Bungie Halo? In certain aspects yes, yes I will but for the most part no. Did I miss the first flight? Yes. Did I play the second flight till my eyes bleed green! No. I gotta work you know. So time to dive right in.
Preference everything with the fact that I’m running the Xbox one original.
Big Team Battle.
Let’s start off with the positives of BTB. Great way to showcase the system and size of the game. It made you feel like every weapon was viable in its role. (More on that later). Layout was interesting. A bit of a zig zag is good. A decent amount of foliage was nice.
However… now I’m going to start on the negatives. The map is compact almost too compact! This makes it seem like the foliage is buched up, stretch it out! The different hill ranges are a nice touch but too many in too compact of an area. We don’t want Halo 5 cqc type maps all the time.
So now we will deal with weapons. I will start with only dealing with weapons I’ve used and weapons and weapons I have an issue with. First off AR this thing needs to be a pick up weapon because it is so viable on its own. Comando… where do I start with this weapon!? Why bring in the Kriss Vector and make it automatic expecting it to be a marksmanship riffle even a thought? If you wanted to make it a more powerful SMG then tone down its damage by 2 or 3 notches. If you are wanting to put it in as a Designated Marksman role. Drop the full auto and increase the zoom. As it stands now this weapon cannot stand on its own its too unstable #DidMarksmanshipRIght, from Halo Reach. One of the biggest unders utilized selling points in Halo has always been marksmanship. From Halo C.E all the way to Halo 4 precision weapons have been a staple. So not having a full on DMR and yes we want the one from Reach or something equivalent be sides the BR is very much a huge detriment. NOW MOVING ON.Plasma pistol, up its homing by a notch. Shock riffle, increase the ammo count by 2 to 4 more rounds please. Also don’t let this be the only DMR type weapon in the game. The scan box property dose not have to be Uber strong but give us some long range ad maps to use it in stuff please. Ravager. Is good but make the shells do impact damage as well. Skewer is good but shorten the weapon height, I do need to see what’s coming on the right side. The sniper riffle. This one is tricky. The riffle itself isn’t bad. The maps however are. They are too short! So the sniper seems overwhelmingly overpowered due to level size so stretch and widen the levels out. Again ease off on the cqc stuff.
Programming issues. This is where 343 will be interested in. One the reticle sticks. Meaning that if you try to adjust your aim on the fly it takes the reticle a few milliseconds more to readjust not great when in a firefight.
Two. Level design! I shouldn’t have to say this but… DONT USE WHILE ON THE WALLS IF OUR RETICAL IS WHITE!!! IT TURNS INTO A SHEEP IN A SNOW STORM! Combine that with reticle stick and you now loose a lot of your engagements due to your enemy standing against a wall and your reticle not moving as quickly as you need it to.
Well there you go those are all of my major gripes as a long range player. I’m sure I’m going to catch hate in this game from the runner crowd but some one has to say it.
