📊 | Halo Infinite Fiesta Randomness Experiment |

Is Fiesta completely random when it comes to loadouts? Or is there some form of weighting going on under the hood? Well with this data collection experiment I hope to shed some light on this conundrum and have some fun in the process.

I’m personally on the side of things being randomized as it’s overall an easier way of introducing a mechanic to a game mode like this from a technical perspective. But if I’m wrong, this table will hopefully shed some light on it. Feel free to share your own thoughts below.

Check back frequently for new data. I’ll try to do 5-10 games a day.

Disclaimers:

For the purposes of transparency I will be recording data represented on the charts only from my perspective. While Halo Infinite through the application of Theater Mode technically allows me to gather data from 8 total players’ perspectives, the sheer meticulousness of that prospect gets my ADD puppy brain revved up. I may indulge that curiosity later, but for now I’ll be sticking with the simpler stated method.

Another point I would like to put out is that I will be recording all my games as a visual aid for myself, but not posting them anywhere as of right now. If anyone wants to see them I may be open to posting them eventually or potentially even live streaming the games for the sake of transparency and merit, but I’ll let you all decide whether you’d want that or not.

I will be recording data up to 100 games played for the sake of providing an “end” to the experiment, but will most likely provide further data as well. Final data charts will be available in the case of the eventuality for the sake of conclusion.

Percentage Spread will be updated every 10 games and may not reflect the “Loadout Frequency” numbers. Please refer to the “Games Played” number for clarification before commenting on this discrepancy.

ONE OTHER BIG DISCLAIMER

This list is a data collection exercise. It is in no way shape or form a detailed analysis of the current build or performance of the game, nor is it an accurate point for argumentative use. I can use this as subjective experience, but it cannot be treated as objective truth. While individual conclusions may be drawn, including my own, it is still a subjective representation of my own gameplay and should not be treated as anything but.

Changelog

4/20/22

  • Added “Kill/Death Frequency” to the chart. Adds kills and deaths and divides that by the total kills/deaths.

  • Added “Total” line for certain columns for tabulation purposes.

  • Added “Hours Invested” for tracking how long it takes me to play the games, sift through the footage, and tabulate the data

  • Updated “Percentage Spread” after 10 games

Thank you for participating in and interacting with this experiment. If you have any questions/concerns/input regarding this post feel free to share.

i think i’d like to do this for a few games this week and post the results here if you’re okay with that.

Absolutely! It definitely makes sense to keep the data consolidated in a place for better comparisons.

Not to detract from your efforts but darn, the Halo community is really bored or there’s something seriously wrong with gaming these days that even Fiesta, a game about RNG, needs to be scrutinized like this.

To be perfectly honest, this is my overly complicated provoked way of responding to various comments that imply that there is no randomness or that some weapons are weighted differently on the enemy team or worse that the mode is specifically rigged around the Fracture events.

I’ve seen these various generalized arguments circulating enough for a long while now and was curious if they had any merit on some level.

I used to do a lot of similar data collection experiments on Overwatch back in the day, so I copy pasted the table layout from one of those and applied some new values. It’s kinda fun lol.

Interesting, I’ll be sure to stay tuned out of curiosity.

Just as an fyi, and you may know this, but at some point you will no longer be able to edit your original post. I think it is like 3 days or something.

I went back to some of my older posts and it seems like it’s about 29-30 days on my end. But I appreciate the heads up, I had no idea there was a cut off.

Gives me a reason to get a hustle on this.

Great idea, I think I’ll also have a go for it so I finally have a reason to play again! One question about the sheet: Unrelated Kills/Deaths include melees & Nades right? Would you count a mangler oneshot+melee combo then as a melee kill or a mangler kill?

Yeah, or vehicle kills/suicides/anything that isn’t a direct result of a loadout weapon. Kills/deaths in general really aren’t necessary for this test, but I thought it might be interesting to include them as a factor for the potential insight into the spread of randomness of enemy loadouts. With some anticipated deviation favoring power weapons I expect to see a pattern emerge that shows a some semblance of equalization or maybe a curve of some sort when graphed.

For the sake of standardization I would consider a mangler/melee kill a melee kill as it was the melee that landed the final blow and not the mangler itself despite the influence of the multiplier.

Further standardization for this experiment as well, suicides that result in a kill/death are still suicides/unrelated kills despite what the scoreboard says. For example if an enemy backpedals off a cliff after taking a few BR bursts it doesn’t count as a BR kill. Let visual common sense take precedent in these situations if you’re questioning the kill/death.

Just a few specific examples I’ve run into and how I interpreted them:

  • enemy rocketed me, it popped me off the cliff counting as a rocket kill, I considered it an environmental kill as the rocket introduced me into a hazard that dealt the final blow

  • enemy melee’d me, I panic shot him in the face with a rocket at close range killing us both. I counted it as an unrelated death as the enemy didn’t fire the rocket that killed me despite the rocket being the actual cause of my death.

  • enemy sword lunged me and killed me as I got a shot off with the skewer. They died simultaneously with absolutely no record of the death on the scoreboard. There was no other way they could’ve died in that scenario other than from my skewer shot as my team was on the other side of the map with no sight lines. This one was honestly just bizarre, if anyone wants to dispute it I’m all for the scrutiny. It’s a good thing I got it recorded lol.

I do find that in some matches that one team seems to get the powerful stuff all the time. Also when the game is close and the other team is slightly ahead, I seem to get comparatively weak weapons so that it’s harder for me to swing the game back in our favour

I’ve felt like the enemy team gets power weapons way more frequently as well, but I usually chalk it up to them picking up weapons from dead teammates.

Also Trand0 I don’t have a tremendous amount of time so I think I’ll only be keeping track of how many times I spawn with what weapon and maybe equipment.

Absolutely no problem. Feel free to modify the chart as needed, or present the data any way you’d like.

Considering how i343 treats challenges and so forth, Fiesta, really do need to be checked.

This will be really interesting to see the results of. Thanks OP

Get home from work and decided to play some Fiesta

“You know what… why not? For shiggles.”

Sees that Tenrai is back which means Fiesta

“Well how 'bout that?”

Ok my games are done and I’ll do the counting tomorrow and post the results

I have 8 more to sift through. Was busier than normal today so I had to stop early on.

This is outstanding. This is the type of research someone should do before they make a claim that Fiesta is rigged, and here you are doing the independent research just for the sake of doing it. That’s a lot of time and effort, nice work.

I agree that players really should do more independent research, especially when the data is right in front of them and all that has to be done is to look at it and write it down. While it won’t answer all questions or inquiries 100%, it does provide helpful insight.

I appreciate the kind words.
