This is a thread hoping people who have also felt this sentiment can share tips to make the game feel less ‘clunky.’
Halo Infinite is the ‘clunkiest’ Halo game I feel I’ve ever played, and the most out of any game that I play currently. Its just something about the way aiming feels to me that still just makes this game feel like a slug. It may be the myriad of settings that I as a console player am not used to.
If any has a controller set up or any other advice feel free to drop it.
Started off with acceleration on max and sensitivity very low. Then slowly built up my sensitivity (by like, 0.5 per day) trying to keep things “comfy” and maintain a decent accuracy (50-60%).
I did reduce the various stick zones - but I didn’t really feel they made much of difference.
It’s certainly a different beast to H5. Less aim assist while still decent (if reduced) movement mechanics.
I’ve also found the FOV changes things up. Trade off to more visibility and sense of speed (higher FOV) to better feel of control (lower FOV).
It’s a balance. I don’t think the higher sensitivies of previous Halo games would work here. Not enough aim assist (compared to H5) and too much enhanced movement (compared to H3).
It could be the controller sensitivity curve. Halo is far from linear, which is what I am used to. The default game settings have dead zones really high and max input threshold quite low.
My setup:
Look acceleration 1.0
Look sensitivity are both 8.0
Centre deadzones - as low as you can get it without drift (mines 8.0)
Max input threshold - 15.0
Axial - 4.0
I don’t remember where I got my control adjustments from, but I would look for some settings put out by ‘pro’ players. Not because I think they’re the ultimate point of reference, but they still have something going for them.
I’ll post the settings I use later, if I remember.
Not sure, its just my personal observation.
For me Halo 5 has less delays. In Halo 5 i could throw faster a second grenade, i could fire faster the next sniper shot.
In Halo Infinite im experiencing a lot of delays, sometime also an input delay on the controller (first grenade throw). This gives me sometimes the impression of a “clunky” gameplay.
Just my personal opinion.
I agree. Its honestly hard to tell if its the gameplay itself feeling clunky or if Im just experiencing subtle desync thats less noticeable than some of the more apparent desync
I’ve been saying it since launch, all the returning features from Halo 5 feel less responsive and the animations less natural. Clamber isn’t my favorite mechanic to start with, but in Infinite I can see the animation yet still miss a ledge on a regular basis, where you had to actively try to cancel a clamber in Halo 5 for the most part.
Also the aiming issues are way under discussed in this community, me and my friends, who are a mix of KbM and Controller players, all feel the sluggish nature of the aiming. On controller there’s the extra frustration of squirrelly, inconsistent aim assist.
Halo Infinite is a completely different game depending on which platform you’re playing on. Xbox, Xbox App (PC) and Steam all play and feel completely different. And all require different controller set ups.
The controller you use also makes a difference. I have found for movement the Xbox Elite Series 2 is the best controller. While the Scuf Prestige is the best for aiming. The base Xbox controller seems to never have it’s response curve get stuck however.
Overall the game still needs six months to a year of work just to get the gameplay consistent. Not even including new content.
If you don’t want to hit the li k then look up “Need Help Aiming in Infinte” and that should bring it up.
I had the exact same feeling and have been playing Halo for 20+ years now and dont know why they chose the default settings they did but those default settings are just down right bad. Hope this helps.
You nailed it. Firing the sniper in Infinite makes you never want to pick up the weapon again… movement is surprisingly the opposite. It feels hyper sleek, and not in a good way. So combining the two makes the gameplay feel awkward as hell.
