Halo Infinite Events and Challenges Are Antithetical to the Halo Experience

When the Tenrai event dropped people had a major complaint, the same one they had for the Tac Ops event and the Last Man Standing event: All the challenges to unlock the armors are tied to a specific game mode.
Forcing players to play certain game modes to grind for stuff is completely opposed to Halo’s identity, previous titles never forced us to play a certain way in order to progress or unlock things. Halo Reach and MCC both had challenges, but they were diverse and allow players the freedom to play the game their way. The easiest thing 343 could’ve done to challenges was to use the MCC system, but they did this and now people have to play the game the way the game wants. This was a deliberate decision and people have been complaining about the progression and challenges being grindy and detrimental to player enjoyment since the game released.
However, not many people complained about the Holiday event, why? The challenges never dictated how we had to to play the game. Do they have to be that easy? No, but forcing people to play modes they wouldn’t be playing if not for the event ruins the Halo experience. Halo has always offered multiple game modes to cater to the diverse tastes of the player base. These challenges and especially the events, completely destroy that experience and force people to play the game in ways they don’t want to play, making them frustrated and less likely to continue.

Solution: Change the event challenges to be more general and not linked to a specific game mode. Players should be able to grind the event and battlepass in BTB, Slayer, Ranked, Tac Slayer, LMS, or any other game mode they want. This will make the player experience much better and happier. 343, you need to acknowledge that player experience is not great and this will be a good way to make things less irritating

343 might make these changes at some point down the road but I don’t see it happening anytime soon. They’ve intentionally designed these challenges to be game mode specific in an effort to farm challenge swaps from the player base- which is a risky move given how small the player base is currently. They would probably stand to make more money through store cosmetics if they rework the challenge system to boost the player population by designing the challenges to be more teamwork oriented and playlist specific as opposed to gametype specific.

They probably make more cash if they did what you suggested.
Tbh every bit they delay this change, they hurt the player count more and I don’t think it’s coming back. S2 had a surge and it’s already gone back to its usual low point.

I posted the same thing over a week ago.

I agree

I totally agree. This game will continue on, but the player base isn’t coming back in any major way.

You made a great point that I never thought about. I play on my own so I’ve never noticed it, but this actually ruins playing with friends.
So now we see that this challenge system ruins both the solo and coop experience.

They are probably already aware of the problem because people have been complaining since the first event. We just dont know what number it is on their list of a dozen other priorities or if 343 even has the talent or manpower to refresh the event and fracture system

They should just redo the shop and drop this awful challenge system. I don’t know what they were thinking doing it this way.

They haven’t been very clear on what their priorities are in the first place.
I find it very hard to believe they had the time to remove skill jumping, which nobody really asked for, but didn’t even take a moment to address this. The new battlepass is an improvement, but this has been an issue people talked about since release. Even if the season 1 events and challenges were too far into release to fix, I would imagine they could have at least delinked the Rakshasa event from LMS as a start.
It makes me wonder if they have such a backlog of issues to fix that we won’t see any change for a while, or if this system is so fragile that the slightest nudge would break the whole thing (i.e. the “feasibility” of team slayer)
