I have heard many people saying that Halo Infinite will be free to play with purchasable DLCs, but will there be a hard disc copy so you can gift the game or go around to a friend’s house?
I have never spent a penny on in game purchases as you need credit card details and misclicking could mean losing £80 to some crappy armour.
Is it just me or would anyone else like a Halo Infinite as a disc?
What are your guys thoughts?
I would assume the campaign and multiplayer will have separate digital installs, one for the paid campaign & the other for the free multiplayer, I can’t see a Halo title not having a physical release so I’d also assume there will be an option in the main menu of the campaign version that takes you to the store page to download the multiplayer.
There will be a disc version of the game. It will come with all the features that the digital paid version of the game will include. Regardless of how multiplayer is packaged, it’s free and kind of irrelevant to the question at hand.
Assuming you have a console with a disc tray and internet connection, you will be able to play both campaign and multiplayer if you buy a disc.
Xbox has not made any indication that discs are going away. Just remember your disc is essentially a physical license, as opposed to the digital license you get when you buy the game through the MS Store. That means you’ll still have to download updates (“games as a service” means constant updates) and the data on the disc will eventually not resemble the latest version of the game. All that to say discs will work the same way as they have since the Xbox One launched.
Yeah, just because the multiplayer is F2P doesn’t mean that there isn’t going to be a disc. Right now on Best Buy, there is an option to pre-order the game and there’s even a steelbook that is offered with it. So its safe to say discs are coming with Infinite.
I think we will see a disc for the campaign on xbox and the free to play multiplayer will probably be either included on the campaign disc or more likely online download only.
Although the vast majority of Infinite’s sales will likely be digital downloads, I’m in the same boat with people who prefer owning a physical disc copy of the game. And I hope there will be a cool collector’s edition as well.

I can launch Halo 5 or MCC without my disk. I have the game pass, it’s certainly for that. I try to uninstall them and reinstall them with the disk, but even like that I don’t need the disk.

The disc acts as the keys to the car.
You can have the car installed on the driveway, but if you don’t have the disc key, you can’t drive it.
If you have game pass, you have the digital keys to drive many cars, including any installed on your driveway, and cars installed on your friend’s driveway if you’re logged on to his house.
Players without game pass will have to go back in the house to swap their disc key depending on which car you want to drive.
Anyhow, given that the multiplayer will be F2P, 343 will need to have a DLC ‘package’ available for players, which functions completely on its own. I could imagine the game having 2 discs for installation, one with everything Campaign related and one for multiplayer. If not, it would be nice if you could install one or the other to begin with, making it quicker to jump in.

Discs today just contain a fraction of the whole game, and you need to download the rest through the store, so my guess is that they may include the main part of the game (the campaign) and leave the MP as a separate download thought the store or maybe as an add-on, like Warzone and Modern Warfare, where Warzone is an extra 20gb download if you already have the base game (campaign, MP and spec ops)
