Ok. So before I go into “rant mode” let me make one thing perfectly clear: The gameplay is amazing, I love it to death and I enjoy playing it.
That being said let’s talk about the things that dampered my mood.
First off there’s NO way to get credits other than cash, which 343 said WOULDN’T be happening, so I’m expecting small amounts of credits to be in both daily and weekly challenges by the time campaign launches.
Secondly, the fact that the ONLY way to progress in the battlepass is to complete challenges to gain XP and the fact that there’s more Challenge swaps than XP boosts in the BP feels maliciously predatory in nature to me, as if 343 is basically forcing us to pay money to grind the battlepass, which in and of itself is rather scummy.
Thirdly, due to a lack of SWAT, I decided to make my own custom game mode for it, and while I got it to work briefly, it seems saving custom game types at the moment is bugged, because every time I select my SWAT mode, it lags, then crashes me out to the Xbox One Dashboard.
Ok all of that out of the way, this day 1, and if the game still feels like this by the end of month 1, then I may have to jump ship back to MCC, cause this game just isn’t as good as it was hyped up to be.
My only real hype-killer is the XP system. I love the rest of the game to death (except aspects of the customization system), especially it’s gameplay. I will no doubt be playing this game for 10 years, but gall, I would like to get meaningful amounts of XP sometime this year.
What’s killing it for me is the piss poor aiming on the controller. Having any customization locked behind a paywall. Not able to mix and match anything basically looking like your friend who unlock the same battle pass tier as you. I understand the game is free-to-play and 343 is not bungee but at least when you load iup the old bungee games you had customizations and it was very rare that any of your Spartans look alike. If you don’t have the $10 for the battle pass you’re staring at a basic spartan. It just feels blah.
Game is super fun imo! Ranked is awesome. Also experienced some bugs when trying to get a custom game variant to save. Battle pass progression is tough.
Most of the guns feel weak to me and the progression system is just awful. Honestly I thought I missed Halo, but after playing for a few hours today I logged off and realized I didn’t have fun. This 2005 style game play is just not enjoyable.
I don’t enjoy nade spam and power weapon abuse while your starting weapon is complete trash dumping and needing to spend 5 years to kill people unless you manage to pop their shield first with a nade. The whole concept of shields and everything is just not fun and I’ve adjusted to the TTK of other shooters over the years. Unless they add a ranked swat mode I don’t really see myself playing this game very long.
I completely agree, the game itself is great albeit a bit lacking in the map and gamemode department, 3 maps and 4 modes for btb, 5 maps and 4 modes for arena, is way too light imo. The only major issue is the monetization being as bad as it could possibly be, the battle pass being terrible in every possible way and the pricing for things in the store being lightyears away from being even remotely considered fairly priced, seriously $5 for a couple emblems, $15 for a warthog bumper, $20 for an armor set, $10 for a helmet.
I get that they need to make money but they simply aren’t going to make it from the pass is nobody buys it because the average player has no chance of ever completing it regardless of whether they have all the time in the world to do it or not and they are never going to make money off the store with pricing as ridiculously high as it is.
The biggest issue with the battle pass is that it directly impacts gameplay because it forces players to ignore the actual objective and run to their death over and over the entire match trying to get a single kill with some janky weapon. Sure i could simply ignore it but i can’t make everyone else ignore it, there will always be people going out of their way to complete these challenges. Getting people to actually do the objective was a nightmare and a half even without challenges forcing them to ignore it, now it will simply never happen.
It’s a super fun game except the high-pitched kill confirmation sound associated with each multi-kill and headshot strikes a nerve after a bit. This sound seems to be programmed into the Sound Effects slider in the settings menu. I’m trying to muffle it by setting my Sound Effects slider all the way down to 1 while making sure the Hit Detection Effects slider is set to a higher value like 5 or 6.
From a diehard H3 player i’ve just accepted Halo will never be like the game that made me fall in love with it. Granted Infinite is much better than H5 and has a lot of potential, H3 was a game that made me forget about every other game that existed, so far I see Infinite as just another game ill play here and there.
