this is an awful monetization, and they are not backing down
They change the samurai event so we can have some “good will” but after I saw today store… they are going to try to keep cashing with us and ignore the criticism, just like what they did after everyone told them that H4 art style was “not halo”.
Yes WE know it is a f2p, but that’s not an excuse to abuse your player base. I really think some people drink chlorine in the morning because I can’t understand how they are defending being abused. Like when a Battleroyale-zombie game (can’t remember its name) was going to charge you for match… it was free so it was ok? Or when Valorant charge 20 bucks for blue? Grow up
We love this game and we want it to succeed in the long run. With this kind of stuff it may just kill its player base. Today it it is better to get a CoD every year than to play infinite: it is practically the same game every year, but you have a full campaign, FAIR store, full multiplayer, zombies/coop, etc. I can’t believe im saying this but maybe 343 should look at the store of CoD for some inspiration. And they are not the best example tbh
To you and others, that may be the case, but to me and others, Halo 4 had expanded on the Art style of Bungie’s. I’d say they did better in some area’s where Bungie appears to have half [Insert Word Here]. Either way, The art style in Halo 4 and 5 were amazing with the engines they were running on.
If you really wanna flex on your friends, you’re going to have to do it old school. Customization isn’t going to do that for you anymore since anyone can buy their 100 Battle Pass ranks, flames and cuddly bear attachments (I bought the cuddly bear attachment and have no regrets, but I digress).
You wanna LOOK cool? Great! Find one good armor that you wanna rock and stick with it. Add pineapple grenades and teddy bears at your own discretion. Take advantage of free stuff when you can.
You wanna FEEL cool? WIN. Win so that everyone has to see your totally unique Cloud9 Spartan scratch his butt with a drawn energy sword at the end of every game.
You wanna BE cool? Get good at the game.…unless you have Shinobi. Who cares if you suck at the game then?
You wanna have fun? Forget about yourself and enjoy the game. The rewards, customizations, and teddy bears are and always have been bonuses — purely cosmetic, non-essential.
And I just realize I wasted a bunch of time writing this when I could’ve been playing Halo!
Nothing about blocking cosmetics behind a paywall then stripped a game to it’s bare minimum to cater to a few gamers who refuse to pay for the full price is “customers friendly”…that’s just nonsense.
Oh right…sorry I meant the majority of people didn’t ask for F2P because most people know how predatory that system would be. So basically you’re glad that we have content blocked behind a massive paywall and that there is literally no reason to keep playing in the long term because of ‘greed’.
Why, exactly, are you putting yourself into a conversation that you were never part of?
Being “here for Halo” is absolutely a tacit endorsement of 343. When you purchase a movie ticket, are you “endorsing” the movie’s director/producer? The obvious answer is, “yes!”
I have yet to see an argument why it shouldn’t be free. We had 5 halos that eventually die and eventually don’t get DLC’s because there’s no more money flow.
I believe if games have in game store and have a steady money flow then they get more content.
If everyone buys a product that never breaks then the seller is just going to go out of business. That’s why cheap -Yoink!- products are made to buy again.
Since halo is great, you buy it once and then the money flow stops. If anything that’s my argument on F2P games. Not that I know much about them, that’s just what I’ve noticed with my experience playing halo 3 and reach. Good games but if the “project” isn’t producing money then we just keep getting sequels and the companies have to keep making new games. And like halo 5, they try to make it new and different so it’s not like previous titles, when really I just wanted more new content for halo 3 or reach in the first place!
When I played halo back in bungie days I never told them anything and the games were great. I feel like it’s their game. I could honestly care less if they hear my opinion, in the end it’s their art. Who am I to tell an artist how they should paint and sell there work?
Look it up man. I’m about to make a post with more information on it and connecting it to the game.
Also. Art and making a game are different. Art doesn’t change when it’s done. When you make a product for people to use you have to get feedback because that "art " is being played by someone else
Don’t people sell paintings as a product? The way I see it halo is a moving picture, just like a movie. I’m not an art critic. I ignore ratings for art. Art is worth what people are willing to pay for it.
Saying a video game isn’t art is like saying a carpenter isn’t an artist when they work on wood.
I see many things a an art form. Hell dancing is an art for. Should I tell someone they’re doing it wrong? Even if they’re selling their dance moves on stage or on film, then don’t buy it. Make your own masterpiece and compete against them.
I think there’s enough passionate halo fans that have great ideas for infinite that probably will never make it into the game. I say make your own game if you don’t like the direction 343 is going with infinite. Who knows you may create the next big thing
Your post was more of a headache to read than OPs. Do you think that putting your points in a number format helps it? It doesn’t lol. OP Is correct sorry
Got something constructive to add or discussion you wanna make on the subject? Or just substituting words in because TLDR doesn’t take up 20 characters?
Honestly 343 should have gone the Rockstar route of GTA V where you just buy ingame cash/earn it and have Halo Reach’s credit system. You can have double xp (or Credits) and the dumb challenge swaps. People can choose what they want to unlock by saving credits and 343 could have included colors, armor patterns, weapon/vehicle/armor skins, emblems (not a fan of that one), and every other options in Halo Infinite to be purchasable by credits. No economic reason to do armor coating or armor core restrictions. Along with easier layout for a better customization UI system. And you could have attachments be reused for other helmets and have them be unlocked by credits to reuse assets to pad out unlocks to the event or next time you add new items. Then you can still have the store for missed event items, sale of pre-order items, Celeb AI, and HCS skins. I really surprised no one goes with that business model since it seems to worked very well for Rockstar and its multiple expansions to GTA V Online. Point that model to the business team. Could have open more options to customize the player with changing the textures of armor to look different types of metal, stone, carbon fiber, or more damage looks to them.
Armor coatings and Armor cores are more of restrictions on customization. Like the Purrfect Audio attachment its only on one core type which is a disappointment. I like the Reach core and kind of a bummer no Purrfect Audio on Air Assaults to make a Kat with cat ears. The only thing that would make sense for Armor cores if its different bi peds. Say a Marine/ODST core or Elite core, or a Brute core. But that would need either a lot of balancing or Invasion style gamemodes.
Anyway back to the restrictions, I would buy Purrfect Audio but its restricted to a armor core I don’t really care for since it lacks armor. I bought the regular Reach battle pass (not the free 20 level version) and the Campaign. This Free to play Business model sucks and could have been better. Its really working against itself. I see colors in any other halo game I would have off the bat. I don’t want to buy any armor coating and I don’t see the two tone colors that I normally go with for past halo games in any of the previews or leaks. So I just ignore those. Then there is lacking of cross armor core. Store wise I might want to buy Purrfect Audio or the Pineapple grenades (not retexturing frag grenades’ to be the same miss opportunity) and I don’t want to buy those either since its to a core with nothing really to it.
Then factor in the lack of gamemodes and playlists which kind of kill my interest in playing multiplayer. I understand your going to start working that post Holiday break but its kind of a buzz kill of playing the game. Which kind of bummer since you have the core gameplay almost hundred percent down some minors tweaks needed. The campaign was good, it had some issues but for the most part it was enjoyable. But I see Halo 5’s segmented release all over again. I hope additional maps are not just going to be night versions of maps with the removal of doors to open up some new paths around the map.
