I’ve been a Halo fan since Halo CE and seeing this franchise grow has been an amazing journey to watch. Halo Infinite has given me many hours of great gameplay and fun! That being said F2P still has me worried, 343 is more focused on the market place rather than on the game experience.
Quote from 343-- “We want events to be a place where you can earn new content and not care about whether you’re going to pay or not”…“And we want that content to be high quality”.
The Winter Contingency Event (during Christmas 2021) has a final reward of ‘Sunset Contessa’… which is basically a bland brown/orange armor coating… BUT if you want to be festive during the holiday, 343 offers a ‘Vermillion Fire’ armor coating with high-quality* metallic red/gold texturing for $18 during this event.
Consider this: If I’m a paying customer, lets say I bought their game for campaign/forge($60) and the battle pass, to get actual armor cosmetics($10)… Spending $70, for the holiday event, we’re being given the obviously lesser quality rewards. There is no contest between brown and metallic red. Maybe if they included metallic texturing for both during this time or jazzed them up with a secondary color design…
Its a dis-respect to the Halo community to monetize such basic parts of what has always been ‘free’(colors) in past purchased Halo titles. – I mean how many shades of blue/green AI colors is 343 going to ‘sell’ us? Much of Halo Infinite’s current rewards seem bland IE Campaign coatings are basically all solid colors, with 3 notable rewards(metallic red, metallic green and camo print coatings), still, lacking secondary color design. Same goes for guns/vehicles (with exception of Rockstar gold texture rewards).
It honestly seems like 343 is holding back, just ‘selling’ us basic bland designs before they start adding in more advanced designed, patterns and textures… or else nobody would buy the basics. It’s a shame they went this route. Maybe I’m wrong but maybe I’m not… just seeing how this Winter Contingency Event Rewards compared to the in-store offers says it all.
Sincerely,
- Spectra
