I have been playing halo infinite ranked arena since it came out with a team of three and we each have our own skill levels. After 343i industries reset our ranks on August 23, 22, we played 10 games and received the ranks diamond 2, platinum 4 and silver 4. After receiving these ranks, halo gave us the message that our ranks are too far apart so we could not longer play together.
The thing is that we only play together since we are a team and we don’t play social games since they are not competitive like ranked arena. We played several games over the course of halo infinite but our win/loss rates together are only 50%, which means the games we have been playing are at our difficulty level or harder. So, I think the move that 343i took was in the wrong direction and could lose a large fan base of family or friends that play together with differing ranks. At this point, we cannot play halo infinite anymore due to CSR fireteam rank limits and I am very dissapointed since we worked hard to obtain our ranks.
That’s a crazy rank distribution for the squad that only plays together. If the current system was working as they intended on paper, all of you would be ranked in the same division at least.
For the 3 of you to play together again, your Silver 4 is gonna have to play solo and be a top slayer while winning games. Once they reach Gold 1 you might be able to play together again. If not they may need to reach platinum.
343 did not provide enough information about fireteam CSR limits and how it would affect the average player. I think the aim here was to provide onyx lobbies with faster matching times and better match quality. an easy fix would be to remove fireteam limits for the lower divisions.
On the other hand you pretty much take the air out of the game for your opponents and/or team mates.
The match maker has to either match you player for player or find an above average level for your opponents. The former leaves a mixture of players expected to carry hard and then those who have to struggle to survive (fully expected to go negative) The latter exposes the team against a higher level player (going on killing streaks).
It’s alright for the Silver on your side. They are at least going negative with friends looking out for them. The equivalent solo players on the other side are just having a miserable time.
I agree! My group of friends that plays once a week has a similar dustribution: Diamond 4, Gold 6, Gold 2, Silver 6. Every game seems to be pretty even. Now i can’t play with my friends, I’ve been playing halo since 2001 and there has never been a time that teams in ranked couldn’t play together due to skill. Looks like we will have to find another game for our game night. Very disappointed with 343
But like I said previously, we did not win every game throughout season 1 and 2 just because we have a higher ranked player. 50% of games were challenging and the other 50% were very close with some easy games.
With an almost even 50% win pattern with our team, it seems like the matching system was working fine ranked before.
The matching system would match us with an onyx from time to time. It was balanced competition for our seemingly unbalanced team. Solo players or not, it shouldn’t make a difference.
And a lot of mates where playing fairly - and being matched fairly. Albeit leaving your opponents with a less than satisfying team mix to play against.
But there were a lot of teams out there using low ranked players to sandbag the opposition. Often using a burner account to quit out early if the match wasn’t going their way - or adding in a Smurf account to help out.
A lot of them. In Season 2 placement I hit such teams up in at least 4/10 games. And they were pretty much a daily occurrence for weeks.
So you can’t have nice things because of a few (or I should say, a lot) of bad eggs.
Sorry I don’t agree, if your team mates skillset is that low he shouldn’t be playing in higher ranked lobbies.
I play to be competitive, mid to high diamond in all seasons…I would be hella pissed losing a game because I’m a solo player being dropped into your fireteam.
Social is competitive enough for a silver and has objective game modes.
Yea I think it’s bs as well. Some people though would say you are using your silver friend to boost yourself. I know it’s laughable to say that though since I’ve played with people in silver and bronze.
If anything I wish we had an open playlist where we can play with whoever and solo/duo can have their silly party csr limitations. Even then - I wouldn’t be able to play doubles with 2/3 of my group. And people can place lower than they should be - had one friend place silver 4 and he finished diamond 3. Just played bad in general, my point is his silly csr rank would eventually be high enough to play together but if someone bombs out their placements (possible) then you have to wait.
But also this system is just so… unsatisfying. It’s truly baffling how just about every other game I’ve played ranked in the last decade does it better.
Same no longer allowed to play rank with my wife or friends this is unexceptable, we have played together for over 6 years, ive been a competative ranked player for over 20 years since halo 3. The fact that after years played over multiple titles we can no longer play ranked together is unexceptable! 343 this is a HUGE MISTAKE MARK MY WORDS!
I am not skilled at shooter games but have been playing Halo for about decade so I can hang out and have fun gaming with my friends who are skilled at shooter games. Because my team that I have been practicing with and slaying with for years now, we have to disbanded because I’m not good enough. Our team play to each Spartans strengths and weaknesses. We even we a season in H5 SWAT undefeated and my husband was Champ 1. Now as a female games I get to attempt to find decent people to game with? Bhahaha. I think I’d rather just have my husband play on my profile and “boost” my rank up to a level where I can play with my friends who’ve become family! It’s very disappointing, no wait this BS is unacceptable! Why should I have to quit this game after dumping money into it because 343 changed the rules? Fix this because COD sucks and I do not want to have to switch to a different game but I will so I can play.
Before you two end up in separate rooms - just want to make sure one of you isn’t still being placed. The system now is that you can only play placement games with other unplaced players or those ranked < CSR 900.
If not. Just get your placement rank and you may be OK to keep playing.
Otherwise the gap between you must be quite high. More than 600 points, assuming SHORTYC76x is > CSR 1500
edit; just checked - we’ve got CSR 1032 and 432 - so the problem isn’t you two playing together. You both fit into the restrictions. So it must be with one of the other players.
I’m assuming someone else in the party is up around Onyx and can’t squad with the Silver 3 player of CSR 432.
The problem is that groupings like that aren’t fair. And are used by players to boost their CSR. And even if your squad isn’t specifically doing it deliberately - you have still been reaping the benefits.
Essentially your “team CSR” gets spread. The top players getting boosted at the expense of the lower end.
And it’s unfair on your opponents. They either get a spread of ranks they didn’t ask for (and their lowly Silver player doesn’t have friends to look out for) - or they get mid ranged and farmed by the Onyx opponents.
I think we all sympathise with those cases of genuine mates just wanting to hang. But it’s just not fair to let those sort of squads into ranked. If you really just want to hang then Social is waiting.
Disagree to some it might seem ok to let a couple who’ve tested and invested in the game get swept under the rug. We’ve played ranked together for 6 years and now all the sudden we cant play together, my rank might say Platinum but i can assure im an onyx and no im not a booster. I have been a top tier player since halo 3 way before she started gaming so no my top tier isn’t because of her. Its not hard to exploit the system like everyone else, if you thought bronze, silver,gold,diamond players complained before wait till i get a hold of them. I will play on my wifes account and tier to Diamond so we can play together. Its sad this is what its come to and there’s nothing anyone can do about. Its a shame i won’t be able to read all the crying to 343 they will do. Angry and i have every right!
To some extent it is. By playing games in what is essentially a manipulated squad you are both extending your win streak, and taking a greater proportion of CSR gains off the top.
It may just be a little cherry on top. But it’s there.

The bit I’m lost about is that you can play together.
Social. Customs. etc.
And your wife may actually have a chance to improve if she’s not constantly running around against opponents way outside her paygrade.
The crying shame is you going out of your way to make everyone else miserable.
You can still play with your wife.
Just not ranked.
It’s not fair on the other team. And even if you aren’t doing it deliberately (and I’m happy to take your word for it) - part of the reason you enjoy the set up so much is the structure of the opposition team it creates.
The only alternative is to throw Onyx level players back at you. But that will just make you all miserable because you’ll have to work harder. Your wife will be miserable because she’ll get even worse scores than she does now. And the opposition won’t have much fun either (especially the hapless token silver player).
