Halo Infinite Crashes

Have not seen this topic but if this game crashes a decent amount then it will affect people not wanting to get banned, progression, campaign etc… I just hope 343 isn’t TOO strict with the banhammer here. Make it be 2-3 games, not just 1. Especially in social.

Why would it crash? I mean it could. Just seems a weird thing to worry about.

As for quitters. Slightly different topic. They need the banhammer - hard and fast.

It’s amazing how many ‘crashes’ or internet ‘drop outs’ only happen when you are losing or have a negative K:D.

And Social shouldn’t be treated any differently to Ranked. Although Bots may smooth the experience until someone can join in progress?

My MCC crashed like 3 times yesterday and got banned for it. Maybe there’s a way for them to track data on that with the new engine as well?

There’s no real way they can track what’s an accident and what’s intentional. Even if they found a way to make it exclude you from the 'hammer if it was a crash, quitters and trolls would just find a way to make their game “crash” too so they can evade the ban since hey, their game crashed so clearly it’s not their fault!

I agree with your sentiment since MCC likes to freeze on the loading menu a few times a month for me and I get temp banned for 10 minutes sometimes. The difference is this game is made by 343i and not contracted out. I have really never had the issues you speak of at a high enough frequency to even think about being concerned.

Yeah I’d say nine times in ten the “Oh, my game crashed / my internet dropped… Please unban me.” happen right when the enemy caps the first flag, or when you spawn a Nornfang then get assassinated by someone using camo, or etc. The remaining ten are the genuine downages but if your internet is kicking you THAT OFTEN then the problem’s less with the game and more with your internet yes? The MCC’s alot more stable than it used to be too, but it still has its issues - so fixing lingering bugs would be a better priority than some miracle system that can magically tell when someone’s quitting on purpose and when they aren’t.

Sometimes the game crashes can be because of stuff going on with the user’s system or the game’s install too though.

Yeah I had a workaround where I had to hard reset my xbox and no crashes afterwards. I gotta give them all the benefit of the doubt that no game or console will ever be perfect so I try my best not to get too frustrated with everything. Just annoying when you’re about to win and then get a crash lol.

You would think the system would easily be able to tell if the game crashed - there are internal error logs for this. Frustrating.

All good I found a workaround but hoping this won’t be the case for infinite!

Also I guess the small timed bans don’t really affect this as much. Mods feel free to lock this thread. Just wanted to see some people’s opinions on this.

Of course, people can also find ways to make the program crash too, the logs would never be able to tell the difference - all it’d know is “it crashed”, but not “the player made it crash intentionally”. Just like switching your internet off - how would it tell the player did it instead of like a power outage?

There’s never going to be a perfect solution sadly, but thankfully the timeouts are pretty short. Get up, get a snack, stretch your back, ban’s over. It’s really aimed at habitual quitters so an accident here or there isn’t going to net you a month-long ban from the game.

It’s annoying, but like my post just above - they’re short enough that the accidents aren’t a big deal. If you’re someone that quits every three games then it’s going to catch up with you quick, or if you’ve only finished one or two games in every ten? That’s the sort of player the banhammer’s built for.

It’s funny seeing people who didn’t live in the standby/lag switch days.

I think halo infinite will be stable, so not too much crash for the players. Banhammer of 343 has always been fair and it will be fair for the future too.

I think a main contributor for the penalties for quitting is Halo’s population. We don’t have the biggest online population so we have to take care of what we have.

Other games such as Fortnite and Call of Duty have no penalty for quitting.

Perhaps going free to play can help alleviate these quit bans for crashes, however quitting is still a problem in Halo when compared to those two games. Someone quits your game in CoD and you may not even know they were there.

Some quits your game in Halo and you feel it. I do not think Halo should maintain Join in Progress, but we’ll see if it returns.
