Unlike past titles in the series, the multiplayer in Halo Infinite is free. With that, 343 has adopted changes to the way we unlock armors and other customization items - moving from the classic comendations system to the battle passes we see in most games now. Its obvious why they took this approach because they need a way to generate revenue from an otherwise free game; however, I feel like the title is incomplete if theres no skill based or grindy unlockables that may take us substantial in game time to unlock and show off.
Is there a way that the two systems can harmonize, or another game to point to where this has been avheived? My badic thoughts on the matter is, perhaps, a Spartan Rank leveling system (standalone from battle pass leveling) could be implemented and tied to career comendations. I would love to hear what other people think on tbe matter.

A battle pass / commendation hybrid model might legitimately be interesting especially since so many games are adopting the same progression systems now.
Instead of a 100 tier BP, something like: there are X number of specific commendations that tick away as you play. Each with their own Y max tick amount before rolling over to the next tier. Upon roll over, a reward is unlocked. But the rewards are not specifically tied to anything, they themselves are a list like the battle pass. You always know what your next reward will be regardless of which commendation rolls over.
Idk, something like that. I’d play test it. Ain’t gonna happen tho. Too much of an overhaul.

Spartan Career progression is something 343 is looking into while Match XP is in Beta, for now. Commendations are a whole other story though. They were used mainly for milestones like for example: hijack X amount of vehicles, win X amount of matches or get X amount of Headshot kills, etc. At least that is how Halo has done Commendations in the previous titles.
I think if 343 really wanted to, they could blend this new Match XP with the Spartan Progression and Commendations together into a new system that is reminiscent of the old systems found in previous Halo titles, while also adding the Battle Pass for it’s own flavor.
This underlying Spartan Career system had such a huge impact on the previous Halo titles for me personally, it really made me care more about trying in as many different aspects of the game as I could because I could see the progress through all the stats. Infinite stripped this system away and it really felt like the soul was sucked out of Infinite’s gameplay for me. Infinite needs more purpose other than unlocking new Ranked emblems and completing the same boring challenges all the time. With the lack of Campaign success or interest, Infinite needs it’s soul back, more incentives or connections for the players to feel towards their personal Spartans and the game itself. Those who purchase cosmetics are allowed that connection with their Spartans but the rest of the players are left out to dry.

I would like to know if they were to introduce a progression system/commendations would everything we have played completed so far be included in the progression or would we all start from zero when it is implemented.
In one instance I would like us all to start from zero as I would feel cheated out of not being able to see the ticker move up from zero
But again I would also feel cheated considering all the work I’ve put into the game and then Have to start again.
I would like Halo to introduce a premium Spartan company with better social spaces for paying users. Commendations could be behind the paywall similar to how Strava withholds certain records and stats.
For a small fee I would pay for better insightful stats - although only if it was in game and not on a silly app or website.

They must be tracking some amount of our stats. You can see your medal counts on waypoint but i think thats about it
