There’s the issue. Your friend will need to play enough games to gain a rating, and your friend will need to be rated close to D2 (not sure how close) in order to play with you.
Lately I’ve been “lost connection to server” mid match every other game. Only with infinite. My friend and I play MCC, Infinite, H5 and HWars and it only happens in infinite these last two weeks. I don’t know why. My internet setup hasn’t changed since 2020 and I’ve powered cycled. I just chalk it up to Infinite sucks *** at everything but core gameplay.
The old school rank system would function the same. Just with a different visual.
Old School: 1-50
Current: Bronze - Onyx
Either way the system would still operate in a way which keeps ranked matchmaking fair and relatively balanced with players skills.
There is no doubt the population is hurting at the moment, but there are only a few ways this changes. More engaging content and word of mouth. There are to many alternatives for people to invest their time in these days.
Even Halo 3 back in its days had over 1 million on launch night, but over time the daily average was about 2-300k.
But Onyx is also a very big rank (without even a cap i think?), so isn’t that basicly functioning the same? (although you can check your CSR number., so perhaps not exactly the same…)
Wide is scope (eg. 1500-2000+) - but not in numbers. Should only be a few % of total population - but does expand given the open ended / grindy nature of the CSR.
Part of the reason we need Seasonal resets.
Yep. The number is the key.
In Halo 3 there is no difference between a D3 and an Onyx 2000. Both would be a ‘50’.
The problem is that you and your buddy are the only ones having fun.
You get to run around destroying the opposition lobby. And your buddy has a level 50 body guard.
If you try and match the opposition on skill level you end up with a level 50 who gets frustrated because they can’t carry their Level 1. And the Level 1 is miserable because it’s not their friend looking out for them.
If you match the opposition on team level you end up with a mid range team who spend their whole game trying to avoid you while scavenging kills against your team mates. It’s just not very fun.
So, in the end, you ruin the game for six people so you two can have a bit of fun.
And now people have worked out how to grind CSR by manipulating teams.
Did this have the effect people were hoping for? My friend group largely had to stop playing due to this implementation. Still wish they would implement a clan system with a raw rank for the entire group. Or treat the lowest ranked person as a higher rank within the threshold, similar to h2.
