so who hasn’t read the fall of reach the book said that the armour can not be powered down but mater chief’s armour is shut down and needs a reboot so is this breaking lore or am i an idiot and missing something about the armour.

I believe the armor wasn’t powered down completely, I think it was routing what little it had left to a built in life support to keep Master Chief alive until he was recovered. The pilot of the Pelican used what little he had in his ship to sort of boost his power cell in his armor to allow it to turn on. It likely won’t last long, Chief will probably need a new source of power once that bit wears off. His suit is probably totaled as well but I can’t say for sure. I don’t know the limitations of the newer armor as that is the current Gen III firmware and armor (as far as we know from what his visr tells us).

From my understanding that’s exactly what had occurred. Same idea as when Cheifs suit went into lockup at the beginning of H3 on Sierra 117.

When it goes into lockdown, I believe the suit does a scan for damage on the user of the suit. If they user is in critical condition, it routes most of the power to emergency life support until a medic can assist. The suits are ingenious creations; designed to keep the wearer in the action as long as possible. It’s one of the reasons I love Halo so much

It’ll take more than that to bring down good ole’ Mk VI. After all, it’s in the description: The MARK VI was able to remain functional until all of its triply-redundant auto-repair and bypass nodes failed. Constructed with the utmost care and multiply redundant subsystems, MARK VI helmets can remain functional even after horrendous damage.
I personally think his armour in the trailer is still in better shape than it was at the end of Halo 3. And definitely better than the Mk V after First Strike.

Like I said, I don’t know the limitations; it is very likely the armor is way more durable and capable of basic and even advanced function than I gave it credit for. But MJOLNIR seems to always be able to stand the test of time and damage. I mean, the Active Camo and Overshield modules did a number on his suit (as did the Covenant and Flood) in the battle of I-04 but it still kept him going all the way till the end.

Well this is Gen 3 armor. The armor in Fall of Reach would be considered Gen 1 (Spartan-IV program having Gen 2). So the same rules may not apply. Perhaps this armor can be powered down for any number of reasons. Or it’s just that Chief has been floating out in space for so long that the suit literally ran out of power. Heck Gen 3 could have built-in cryo abilities for all we know and the power needed to initiate cryo would take almost all the power left.
Then again, the unknown pilot said that the MAIN power cells were dead, possibly meaning that the suit was running on auxiliary power.
Anything that has electric power can be powered down somehow.
