Does anyone know if halo infinite campaign requires Internet… as I think I heard something about live events in the campaign… gunna be awkward if the Internet goes down mid game or something? Just wondering I understand this is a live service game but I hope it aint going down destiny’s route.

It should be necessary only for the multiplayer, for obvious reason.
The time when games needed internet to play both in solo and multiplayer is long gone (thank god because it was bad).
Even if the game is a live service game, it’s mainly for the multiplayer so don’t worry too much.
But even then, I think you should be able to launch multiplayer without internet just to play in local splitscreen in custom game or to use forge because they won’t require internet (I hope at least but I’m confident)

Ghost Recon Breakpoint would like a word…
but yeah, having forced online for a singleplayer game sucks. hopefully they won’t ruin infinite with always online drm.

I forgot about that one, never was interested in it anyway
I was, played it off and on up till they did the survey where it asked if players wanted offline play added and then after the survey they gave some vague bs excuse why they couldn’t patch it in…That was when i uninstalled it.
I can’t give my time to singleplayer game that has to be online 24/7. I’m hoping they kill the game and do a proper wildlands sequel…but i doub it. ubi is all about online division type games now. ugh…at leaat i still have rainbow six siege which got offline play added a while back so i can do terroist hunt solo whenever i want.
I have so much hope riding on infinite to be an awesome open-ish-world game with lots of exploring and epic missions.
ALthough it would be cool to have live events I don’t think you require internet for the campaign.
It probably won’t be required. Halo 5 did not require an online connection to play campaign, and that game was met with all sorts of backlash because campaign was literally the only thing you could play without being connected to Xbox Live.
I’m a single player of campaign but also enjoy multiplayer. The thing is if campaign isn’t entirely playable offline then MS can -Yoink- off. My interest for multiplayer will at that point cease to be as well. At this point I’m going in expecting this thing to require some sort of authenticating ruling out offline play and will wait to see first
Halo is basically the only thing I have Xbox for so the day campaign requires online to play is the day I quit on the franchise. I predict many will follow. The stupid thing is it’s not even an internet issue as most of us have it and gamepass to boot. No for me it comes down to the potential of being locked out down the line if for whatever reason we can’t authenticate any more
We shall see
I admire people’s convictions. But there is still a lot of fun to be had if and when your internet is actually up (which is like, most of the time). Baby and the bathwater.
A lot of people are saying it won’t require online, but frankly at this point nobody official has said that. It’s entirely possible that the game will feature mandatory internet connection for campaign. We simply don’t know yet.

Good question. 343 should answer that question because it would be fun to find out like somebody already said when your internet goes out while I’m the middle of a banished firefight.
You have to be online to play halo 5’s forge so hopefully infinite doesn’t have these problems.
If you’re internet is out wouldn’t you want to play offline campaign, firefight, customs, or forge? They should have offline modes for no internet moments.
I think it will require an update day one. So internet will be required for that. Also, many games won’t run on Series X / S without internet, even Xbox One and old backward compatible digital and disc games. There’s a good chance Halo Infinite will require an internet connection on Series consoles.
I’m always online because I often party up with friends etc. I’m hopeful Halo Infinite’s will be playable offline for those that want it, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up. You can’t even use a Series X console without a day one update. I personally see Halo Infinite being fully online, but hopefully it’s not.
Series X DRM skip to 1.35 if want to avoid Rich’s bs lol. Also check out Modern Vintage Gamer, both these videos are relevant to this thread imo.
it will require internet because the game its self will need internet to run
The only way this makes sense to me is when your internet goes down, then you’d need offline mode to play to pass the time.
It shouldn’t require it.Previous Halo campaigns were offline and split-screen.
MS would certainly like it if people just accepted an online requirement and so it’s good to see people waking up to the problems this potentially causes down the line. It’s not about if your line goes down even and you can’t continue playing but rather if you’ll be able to play these games even 10 or 15 years from now if the authentication exist to allow for this. MS are banking on people not being all that clued up on the subject but people ae slowly waking up to it
It’s basically like if someone said to you that you might not be able to watch or read your favorite film or book some 10 years down the line. We just accept that we can but with games we don’t figure it at all which is obviously crazy
anyway a lot of folk simply wont care for problems that may occur down the line and to that I say fair enough. For those that like the idea of playing their games however, a good portion of people aren’t willing to take the chance that they might not be able to access Infinite if it is tied to an online authentication
Every singe halo game before Halo 5 was fully accessible offline (except Halo 4’s Spartan Ops, for some reason). And now that split-screen is back, the campaign, Forge, theatre and custom games should absolutely be available without requiring an Internet connection. There is really no reason why we can’t have offline functionality…is there?

you’d think so but then Halo5 Forge still isn’t possible offline despite being proven it doesn’t need to be. Nah this sort of stuff is to encourage more people to pay for subscription. MS right now would very much like us not to notice such things but people are starting to slowly realise the implications of an always online product. Fair enough the campaign can still benefit from being online for various other additions but to shut people out from playing campaign entirely unless they first authenticate isn’t going to end pretty for them
I almost want to see them try as well to see the massive negative it will have hovering over them. Do your homework folks, we all love the benefits of being online and there are things you simply can’t do any other way but single player campaign is not something that should require an online authentication to play offline content. Unless people wake up to what this potentially actually means then you might not be able to play these games down the line
I’d be heated if it did, but they didn’t do it for 4 and 5 so I doubt they’d do for Infinite.
Part of me wonders if it may be a requirement for last gen as a way to offset the weedy CPU on Xbox One especially for some of the more computationally complex sections- like determining what set of enemies to load in based on how you’re approaching an area.
That said I also hope it isn’t a requirement. Personally my console is always online these days, but I’m fortunate to have a strong connection and set up and I remember the days I wasn’t so lucky
