Read on IGN, I don’t even know what to say or think:
Halo Infinite won’t be getting a co-op option for Campaign mode until May 2022 at the earliest, and Forge mode will be even further down the line.
Speaking to Eurogamer, 343 head of creative Joseph Staten confirmed that the game’s extension of Halo Infinite Season 1 means the two much-requested features have been delayed.
When 343 announced that Campaign co-op and Forge would not be in the launch game, it made clear that the former would drop during Season 2, and the latter in Season 3. Staten confirmed that, with Season 1 now taking place for around 6 months instead of the planned 3, that means those modes have also been pushed back. Season 2 should begin in May 2022, with Season 3 likely to be around August/September.

Inside of me I am having a mixture of emotions between the concern about a possible more extensive crunch for the employees, and my outrage at knowing how it is possible that after years plus a year of delay this is not yet available, I think 343i should be talk about this issue and try to calm the community.
I’ve liked the approach talking to the community with their blog posts.
That being said, the depth and insights are not documented there at all. I wish they would be more transparent in that regard too. Freaking talk about how its looking like. The community will go wild once but then settle and build trust.
Game development includes a lot of iteration and pre-production, which also takes time.
It is not like they spent 6 years making this game, many ideas and mistakes have been aborted until they got to full production mode.
And now we have a great Halo game, and potentially the best Halo campaign ever. This is better than a rushed Halo game three years ago which people would have disliked.
To be completely honest, if delaying these two features are needed for the team to focus on fixing multiplayer then I can stomach that choice.
They can’t keep co-op and forge coming on time AND fix the multiplayer as the team’s probably overlap.
I’m very much wanting those two things too, but I feel like the priority has now had to shift so drastically in fixing the massive screw up that is the multiplayer.
Some more transparency would be nice but this week they have had roughly a million voices online screaming at them to fix the multiplayer so I imagine they are a little overwhelmed, I know I would be.
What a joke! Why can’t we just have a fully baked product at release? This new live service model is killing gaming. There’s a difference between supporting a full game with tons of cool and free content (MCC) and releasing a game in patchwork…
You can probably thank the economy for that one. Its financially risky to release a game that has a large multiplayer focus that isn’t a live service these days.
On one hand I appreciate the honesty and early notice. A lot of developers would be even more vague and/or ignore such things completely rather than speaking about.
But come on, I can understand a month delay for a feature, maybe even two, but over half a year to get a returning feature (not to mention the crapton of gamemodes we didn’t launch with just like Halo 5) is just crazy. What on earth happened behind-the-scenes in the six years between H5 and this? I really hate this modern attitude of launch what we can and fix the rest later, all the while prioritizing that in-game store to milk those wallets!
This is what happens when a small studio tries to release a game on like 4 different consoles/ pc at once. while supporting and older game like its brand new for pc and console. All the while assist in creating a tv show and various other media like multiple toy lines etc…all at once
This is crazy. I mean I get the honesty but this should have announced a while ago. They should have just delayed the game till next year and cut the older gen.
Is this really a surprise to people? They announced a while back that co-op would come in season 2 and forge in season 3. When they announced that, it should have been clear that they were struggling with things and these were only hopeful estimates. When it was said that season 1 was going to be 6 months instead of 3 my first thought was that they needed more time with co-op and forge.
Does it suck? Yes. Is their delay better than getting them broken? Yes. Will they still be launched in a broken state because of the pressure the community is putting on them? Almost certainly.
