I wanted to know how everyone feels about Infinite being open world. I don’t really like it too much. I feel like halo should stay as a linear story, without being interrupted by open-world factors such as side quests and random enemy camps. What really bugged me was the “upgrades” section in the map. Again, these are the mechanics you would expect from most open world games, and again, I feel like halo shouldn’t go down this route. I’m ok if it’s CE open world, but it seems like it’s not. Please let me know what you guys think.
I like the open-world concept. Its time for a change in the way we play halo. We had a linear story for 20 years. Let’s expand our ability to explore.
The linear story issue is that after you beat the campaign and run through it a couple more times to get achievements and helo a couple of people out with beating the story or getting achievements that’s where it ends. The campaign is then only visited if you are helping someone else or want to glitch around.
With an open ecosystem, there is a lot to explore and that’s what Halo needs more of which is exploration-based gameplay.
I cannot wait.

I can’t deny that it opens up many more gameplay aspects, and much more replay ability, but it depends on how 343 handles it. If it’s a very boring world, with empty plains and barren mountains, it isn’t as replayable anymore. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Ya we will see, but it will def have more things to do than just follow the linear route.
It could be awesome
I believe that the Open World would be a good addition to the game. Yeah we look at games like Destiny where the only interaction we have with the map / only reason to explore are the reskined enemies, occasional chest which gives a minuscule reward, and maybe some hidden ghost. I believe Halo can do better than Destiny since there are weapon drops which could be scattered across the map and vehicles too. This would give us an incentive to explore the game’s map and help with the campaign missions.

I agree that the linear games get very boring over time, and the idea of an open world halo strikes my interest. However, for me at least, halo has never been just about the gameplay. It’s about the story, and my greatest fear for this game is that they will sacrifice the story for the sake of the open world gameplay. Take Zelda botw, for example. It was a fun game but had almost no story. Personally, I’m very exited to see were the halo story goes, and I hope that if they have to end up choosing between the open world or the story they choose the latter.
