I was looking through the new battle pass and noticed… there are no credits. we cant earn our way to the next one, we have to buy it. Even FORTNITE (of all things) has a renewable battle pass. Why, 343i?

Probably (in part) because it doesn’t expire. The other BPs are timed so you might not make enough progress in the window to unlock the next.

Yeah, it’s probably why there is no expiration date but it makes me cynical. It seems more likely that they didn’t want to make it renewable first and foremost for the money and the “no more FOMO!” was just marketing.
Of course it was marketing. It’s part of the battlepass design, but it’s also a friendly kick in the teeth for their immediate competition in PR.
By having every single pass be paid for but never expiring, we’ll eventually pay the full $60 price for the game’s multiplayer content in 2 years. a little longer than that by a few months now that season one has been extended, though.

I don’t actually mind that because in this game it doesn’t expire; I think that’s a big improvement on their part and I don’t mind them expecting people to pay for new content. I do not, however, appreciate that the content we get is restricted to specific armor cores.
