I’m really excited for the new Halo coming next year, but I have more than a few concerned about what I’ve seen from this game so far. The game looked flat and plastic as hell in the trailer and the new armor reveal looks flat and plastic.
I know 343 is working their -Yoinks!- off to make this game great, and I have no idea about what goes into making a video game, but that fact that Halo Reach & Halo 4 look better than what I’ve seen so far is more than disappointing.
I hate being negative but I have to be honest. I’m just not that impressed with what I’ve seen so far. Look I know we are a year out but still, the gameplay looks more or less like Halo 5, the graphics seem to be almost a downgrade despite having a new engine, and the armor design that they just revealed looks underwhelming.
I agree regarding the visuals aspect but I disagree with the armor. I love the “new” armor. it looks excellent overall and the fact they’re finally adding the call sign on the chest piece is the way the Spartans themselves are identified. Hopefully in MP for Infinite the call sign will be substituted for the user’s actual emblem or even their specific call sign. Large enough to see but not so big that it looks like it covers the entire pectoral portion of the armor.
The game play trailer had issues… mostly due to lighting making the textures look dull (look up Digital Foundry’s vid). Understandable as they get to grips with the new console and get used to and optimise their new engine. But nothing that can’t be fixed.
The new armour designs are clearly labelled as a work in progress. I think they look great. And they are for multiplayer - where it’s ok to be shiny and new.

What I should have said was the detail of the armor what underwhelming, the design I think is really good.

I think the visuals as a whole were underwhelming. I suspect that was in part due to being built off an older system and not really having the finishing touches that will be present on the final launch.
I think you aren’t overreacting, just have a genuine concern.
Fortunately for you those were work in progress renders. If you remember (or even saw) the Halo 5 renders that were previewed before its release those were even more flat/lifeless. When it’s time for launch a lot more detail and grit is added to the models. So you can at least hope for that.
