This is how I’ve always felt, back in the AGP and MLG days it was an external team of people making competitive settings and continuing to fine tune them until finally landing on something everyone agreed worked best.
Halo Infinite is seriously lacking in the weapon sandbox department, over 50% of the weapons we’ve all come to love over the years aren’t even in the game my favorite of those that are missing being the Halo 2 Covenant Beam Rifle, Halo 2 Human Shotgun, Halo 3 Spartan Laser and Halo 3 Mauler.
Yep. I just think 343 should just focus on making a stable game and let the HCS scene sort itself out.
Yeah, I hope we get some of those back, especially the Beam Rifle, Shotty, Laser, and Carbine.
Out of curiosity, do you prefer the Beam Rifle over the Sniper? And if you do why? I also like the Covenant counterparts to some of the guns (Brute Plasma Rifle and Carbine specifically).
I do prefer the Covenant Beam Rifle over the Human Sniper Rifle and its because it fires much faster and the Halo 2 version also spawns with 22 shots by default instead of 10 like in Halo 3 onward, but I definitely prefer the Human Battle Rifle over the Covenant Carbine.
Nice. I prefer the Beam Rifle as well, but for the fact that it doesn’t technically need to “reload”. Well paced shots keep it from overheating, and if it does, you can pocket vent it. That alone made it more nuanced than the sniper IMO.
I asked because you mentioned Infinite was lacking fan favorite weapons, and I think we both know it’s because of the “redundancy” issue. Do you think streamlining the sandbox this much was good move or would you prefer a bit of overlap with some of the guns?
Same. Some weapon types are just straight up missing:
Trap setting weapons (Grenade Launcher, Sticky Det., Plasma Caster, Flame Thrower). We have the Ravager, but… you know.
The Brute Shot/Concussion Rifle’s knockback properties aren’t on any Infinite’s guns right now.
And we need a proper Plasma Rifle back. I always like the PR because it could strip shields quickly, but you could also just use it to finish the kill if you wanted, unlike the Plasma Pistol. The Pulse Carbine, is supposed to do this, but its tracking makes it super unreliable at most ranges.
I miss the Plasma Rifle too both the standard blue Elite one and the red Brute one. Also, the Pulse Carbine is nearly useless in multiplayer at most ranges because of the tracking, this is true.
Definitely agree strongly about the maps; these are bland both gameplay-wise and aesthetically. They are dull and boring, because they’re extremely inside-the-box. Everything is predictable and it makes for an incredibly bland experience.
I agree about the game modes too; at least they’ve made a little progress there, but it’s far too slow. There should’ve been more than this at launch and now we’re 3 months in, and barely any improvement. Really hope this gets addressed soon.
The other thing I think is a major deal is the radar; they’re finally upping it in BTB which is fine, but why are they not doing it in Arena too? Right now all you have to do is sprint around and shoot people in the back cause they have no idea you’re there; it feels like CoD, except when you play against people who have good headsets and can hear you, which is even more annoying cause dude I can’t afford that crap. I really hope they make it a priority to bring the radar back up to the full 25m size.
