I feel that who we fight in Halo Infinite is important, for the most obvious of reasons. But also who would be our allies is just as important.
as of right now we have…
Enemies:
-
Banished - Cortana’s army of Prometheans - the FloodAllies:
-
UNSC/Infinity - Osirus - Blue Team - Spirit of Fire - Red Team - Swords of SangheliosAs of right now, that’s all we have, however I feel like a (very) little amount of enemies and allies, as well as some nuetral parties, could be added to the roster.
Enemies:
-
Followers of Cortana - Small Groups of Covenant LoyalistsNeutral:
-
Wildlife (since there seems to be some prehistoric animals shown in the trailer…maybe Dinosaurs?) - Rogue SentinelsAllies:
-
Hacked Prometheans - Sentinals - Banished (after some things are settled of course)Thoughts, additions, and things to omit from my list?
This thread is just supposed to start the conversation, and hopefully 343i would look at this and other threads like it for suggestions on what the fans would like to see in Halo Infinite.
Assuming that the Banished would be enemies encountered in Infinite is premature. For one, they probably aren’t any more keen on the idea of a human AI ruling the galaxy than the UNSC. And they are kind of busy maintaining the quarantine of the Flood on the Ark. I also don’t think they’d be allies, because they hate humanity as much as they hated the Covenant. While I personally don’t think the Banished would show up in Infinite, if they did I think it’d be fair to say that rather than help us, they simply wouldn’t move against us. They’d do their thing and we’d do ours.
Cortana’s Prometheans are almost guaranteed to show up as enemies in some way.
The Flood is another premature call; while the Flood will always be a threat, we can’t say that they’ll appear as bad guys in Infinite. The only known Flood outbreak in the galaxy is currently being held back by the Banished. It’s always possible that another source of Flood will pop up but that’s not something we know right now.
Followers of Cortana (like the Unggoy) are a good idea for enemies. It’s already been established that some species fell in line and were granted benefits in return (that’s how the Grunts got their Goblin mechs). Certainly other species could show up as loyal to Cortana, with similar bonuses to their technology. Suped-up Drones, perhaps.
Your initial Allies list can be summed up to the UNSC and the Swords of Sanghelios. I would say it’s unlikely that the Spirit of Fire will show up; they wouldn’t leave the Banished alone on the Ark, that would be too dangerous. And since Red Team is part of that crew, they’d stay with the ship. The idea of hacked Prometheans as allies doesn’t work for me. Some Prometheans like Knights are actually the digitized consciousness of living beings, and I’m not sure that’s something you can hack (the Flood could, but that’s different). The purely artificial Prometheans like Soldiers and Crawlers might be hackable, but I don’t think any human aside from Halsey has enough understanding of Forerunner tech to do something like that, and certainly not on a large enough scale to actually make a difference on a war front. I think Sentinels could go either way; as agents of the Builders, it makes sense that they were not subservient to the Didact, but Cortana has access to the Domain, which puts her on another level of control over Forerunner tech.

First off, thanks for being the first to comment on this, but I would like to give a bit of an argument on some of the things you mentioned.
I’d agree with you for the most part, however this domination that Cortana is trying to achieve would pull the Banished and Spirit of Fire into it regardless. I think (stressing that word) the ending of HW2 points to exactly that scenario. But I am certain that the Banished could swing both ways; I also don’t see them being allies of the humans, and neither do I think they wouldn’t make things more difficult for them and the rest of those trying to rebel against Cortana. Also the Flood has been among one of the most popular demands next to playable Sangheli and the return of proper split-screen, I’m certain they’ll at least be heavily referenced, or better yet fought in the game.
also yeah it is unlikely to hack them, but the Didact did it when he took them from the Librarians control in H4. If done the same way, would you think that it’d be possible?
Thoughts on the Didact returning?
yes I am aware of the Esclation comics, but it wouldn’t be the first time the games broke comic/book canon. What do you guys think?
yay or nay?
and also, why?

At face value, the ending of HW2 shows a Guardian nabbing Anders Halo out of slipspace. Anders is the only one back in the Milky Way. I could see Anders showing up in Infinite, but unless the game gives Chief a reason to go to the Ark, I don’t see teh Banished or Spirit of Fire showing up.

I’d be fine with a reference. Even an easter egg, like walking through the Palace of Pain on Installation 07. I’d even be okay if they were a minor enemy in the game, like 1-2 levels. But I don’t want the Flood to return as a big threat right now, personally. Just because it’s a “popular demand”, I don’t think 343i should try to shoehorn it in just to give some fanservice, like they did with Awakening the Nightmare.

Didact didn’t really hack the Prometheans. They were originally under his control to begin with. If anything, the Librarian hacked them after imprisoning her husband, and then Didact just took control again. But they were Forerunners. Their technological abilities are vastly superior to anything humanity is capable of. Naturally a Forerunner would be able to control Forerunner technology. But since we don’t know how they control it, it doesn’t make sense that humanity would suddenly be able to wrench control of some Prometheans away from Cortana. Even with Halsey on the team. The only version of “friendly Prometheans” that would make sense to me is if somehow, Promethean Knights formed from human consciousness had their memories returned to them, and they go crazy on Cortana in retaliation. But even that would be a stretch from what I find believable.
Really hoping we’d see all these guys you’ve listed in Halo Infinite wether they’re friend or foe. It would make sense to have a mass number of allies and enemies as it’s titled “Infinite”. There’s quite a few possibilities.

I agree, there is a pretty good roster of possibilities for 343i to take advantage of. Hopefully they do it right this time around.
Anyone know if the flood will be back. And if the brutes will be in it.
Hopefully Guardians will be a more interactive enemy this time than just floating background pieces.

I can’t see that being a fun boss fight, considering you literally *run down one’s underside in Guardians.*A single Spartan, even John, is going to have trouble with something that single-handedly crippled the Sol system in a way that even the Mantle’s Approach couldn’t.
Please, please, please let the Didact stay dead.
Other than that, Chimera30’s first response is comprehensive and very well reasoned based on what we know going into Infinite at this point.
