Halo Infinite advertisement vs. actual game

Disclaimer: I am not bashing any company or franchise as I am just stating different things I have done research on (If you want me to link something DM me or ask in comments and I’ll hopefully be able to link you with information) and am a dedicated die hard Halo fan since 2010! (I wasn’t even alive when Halo first came out, sorry to make old veterans feel older)

I’m going to start by ripping the band aid off saying I don’t think we should blame 343i for the controversial atrocity that was Halo 5’s Campaign. I’ve heard over the years different things to the effect of Microsoft stepping in to make changes to the game last minuet leading to an unfinished product and entire cuts being made to the game as well as a janky, short, and confusing story, expecially if you haven’t read the books, watched the movies, or played the Halo 4 side game “Spartan Ops” (I pride myself in owning the entire Halo novel collection on my bookshelf and people think I’m crazy having all 30-ish something books on display). Despite all of that the biggest pain was that the trailer(s) we got for Halo 5 had nothing to do with the actual game besides the character’s that were there (I’m specifically referring to the live action trailers) but I think we can give grace to them here because it seemed they were headed in a different direction with the game entirely (Almost a Halo 3 ODST style, because of Osiris finding chief’s gun) when we saw the gameplay footage at E3 2015, and if the rumors about Microsoft are true we can’t really take anything out on 343i.

What I can say is that all the Halo Infinite trailers up until the point of the actual Gameplay reveal this year at the online E3 2020 livestream, has the entire Halo fanbase super hyped for the game! I say “Up until the point of the actual gameplay” because once people saw the graphics and some of the janky animations and blocky textures a lot of people started getting worried. I also learned that 343i’s marketing team pushed the gameplay footage to be released even though they were begging not to. Apparently there’s a whole thing going on with underpaid staff with Blizzard and a few other companies that’s currently in investigation, but that has nothing to do with 343 and the main question at hand (but imagine how much more hyped a bunch of people would be if we only got the cinematic where they are building the Master Chief suit and we got a more polished trailer later on in the year… just saying marketing team… good things come to those who wait, as I think they have learned by delaying the game.)

Halo was the Xbox series X “Launch Title” and with it now being delayed, what now? I don’t know what to expect as there are a bunch of unknown variables revolving around the pandemic, the Slip Space Engine, and Project Scarlett, but I think the greatest development is the return of Joseph Staten to the team. All things considered Halo Infinite still has a shot to become the best Halo game created yet, but that all depends on a lot of things that hang in the balance. My question to everyone is do we think that the Halo Infinite game will be different to what we have seen so far? Do we think the story will change at all? (I know there were a lot of mixed feelings about the new brute leader guy Hyperious I think it was? There was not a Locke Helmet on his shoulder in the gameplay demo btw leading me to believe we will meet fireteam Osiris in game) Also what the hell happened to those two new Spartans and the doctor we got introduced to awhile back? There is also this new Elite spartan hunter dude we have as well. I’m just believing that the campaign is just extremely long because of the short halo 5 campaign complaints that there are so many different things we simply don’t know yet about it ( I could see something like 25% campaign meeting Osiris/new characters, 25% campaign Beating Hyperious, 25% campaign figuring out back story, 25% campaign flood) anyways I’m interested to see what you guys have to say about this as I’m wondering if there is something I’m missing or someone could Enlighten me on to help me grasp what’s going on so far!

PS: I love you guys at 343i and know you guys will make this an epic title in the face of all of the challenges we have in today <3 !! (I hope this post didn’t seem like I was hating on anyone)

I don’t think it’ll change too much. Hopefully 343i will make the game actually look next gen, and fix some of the animations, and add a spare craig option to that one part in the gameplay reveal. That’s all i see changing. I think that they mostly learned their lesson. My main concern is the multiplayer. If and when they reveal that gameplay, i think that that will be the big selling point since we’ve already seen some campaign. If they have a great multiplayer and terrible campaign like 5, it will fail. If it has a great campaign but an unbalanced multiplayer like CE (no matter how fun it may be), i don’t think it will hold people’s interest. If it’s like halo 3, then i think 343i has made a lasting title, possibly one of the best. But it has to come down to them fixing what they have so far, making it new but still feel classic, and releasing a finished product. I am disappointed in infinite’s delay, but if it means that the game will be better because of it, i think that 343i made the right call. Overall, no i don’t think the campaign will change, but the multiplayer we’ll have to wait and see.

This question sounds too broad, but I think the difference between Infinite’s real game and advertisements should be smaller than H5’s situation, at least in terms of visual first impressions. Note that all Infinite material so far (with the exception of Mega Bloks toys, which is excusable) are all either footage from the game engine, official concept art, or CG closely resembling content from engine footage. H5 on the other had hand novels, comics, Hunt the Truth campaign, live action ads, a bland TV series, and an unrelevant E3 2013 CG trailer, but did not show in-game assets until pretty close to launch. I feel Infinite’s marketing is much more conservative and focused so far, which is quite reassuring.

Ohh lord this post is about to get locked. Freedom of speech and to express ones self isn’t an option here. Lol

This delay will give 343 the time they need to put out a quality product I hope. But still, 500 million bucks and 5 years for that? Hugely underwhelming. And disappointing. They need to step it up.
