Dear 343i/Microsoft,
Can we keep the Ad Campaign for Halo Infinite true to the gameplay and actual story? Reminiscent of The Halo 2 Ad (Halo 2 television trailer - YouTube) a true example of the product we ultimately received. Please do not repeat the over exaggerated Halo 5 Ad campaign, which boasted a Spartan gone rogue vs a Spartan on a mission to eliminate, but actually over hyped a 5 min scene where Chief and Locke slap each other a little bit.
Yeah 5’s ad campaign was extremely…well…false. We were under the assumption Chief had gone rogue for any varying amount of reasons and that Locke was hunting him down to find the truth. Instead it ended up being Chief and Blue Team went AWOL and Osiris went to find them only to end up joining them.
So hopefully Infinite’s ad campaign does a lot better.
Don’t quote me on this as I don’t even remember where I heard/read it but I think 343i weren’t completely in charge of the ad campaign, it almost felt like someone else got the gist of the plot and made overexaggerated ads. If it was all 343i then yeesh, they need to do exactly what you said.

I also had heard a different theory that 343 was developing a story line, then Microsoft came in and made some changes mid-development. So ads were made for that original story line and released anyway, even though they weren’t the same as the story we actually got.
Regardless of why the ad campaign was so misleading, I think 343 has learned their lesson in this regard, and I also think this is why we have received so little marketing info thus far.

They’ve started they realize they messed up with the marketing of H5, so at the very least they’re aware.
Microsoft in general is very tight lipped about announcing and releasing info on games in the works, completely different from the start of the generation. I think all those game delays/cancels showed them it’s better to be safe than sorry.

What I heard was that midway through the story development (right around when they finished the advertisement), they ended up changing story lead writers. So basically a Destiny 1 was pulled where the story had its path all sorted out…then something happened and everything got swapped around and the developers had to run around like crazy trying to get everything done before the deadline.
But that’s just what I heard, unsure of the legitimacy.
Over the past several years, I’d say 343 has had more than their fair share of negative feedback regarding the ad’s and campaign overall. I have a hard time imagining that they won’t “learn the lesson” next time around.
Regardless of the past… I really would hope for an ARG like Halo 2 and 3. Something to lead up to release or at least E3.
I’m sure the marketing this time around will be far more minimal after that disaster with Halo 5.

I really hope they learn from their lessons they gained from Halo 5’s terrible ad campaign.
