When they say next-gen, do they mean next gen graphics or just it’ll be supported on next gen consoles? And do you think it’ll be as demanding as a game like Red Dead Redemption 2 or CP2077?
I believe next gen does not strictly refer to graphics alone, but also include weapon/vehicle sandbox, AI, physics, etc. Since the game will also be on last gen hardware (Xbox One), I dont think it will be full-fledged next gen. Perhaps the game will run and look better on the newer systems but mechanically, the game has to run consistently across all its supported platforms
Next gen just means it’ll support those consoles. In terms of graphics I don’t think it’ll be as impressive as many are hoping. I think it’ll look good just not the highest quality out there.
real back your expectations on a graphical stand point. It will be on next gen consoles, all that really means.
I highly doubt it’ll be like Red Dead or Cyberpunk. Those are SP games where they put obscene amounts of attention to small details that MP games don’t
Gonna say something a few might disagree.
Graphics do matter.
Yes, they don’t matter as much as story and gameplay. But that doesn’t mean they’re not important, especially when it comes to immersion. I hope 343 puts the “right” balance on prioritizing graphical quality along with story, level design, gameplay, frame rate, sound, etc.
I don’t expect Infinite to have Horizon Forbidden West level of visuals, but I do hope it will have next gen graphics at the very least.

Of course graphics matter. And there is FidelityFX super resolution for the next gen consoles. If Infinite could use that, it might very well get a serious boost in res or fps.

Next-gen game refers to it being supported by the new consoles. I doubt it’ll be as demanding as either of them.
As long as the gameplay is good I am fine with it.
Like others have said, I think what they mean by next gen is mostly that it will be on newer consoles. That does mean that performance will be better than the xbox one, which isn’t hard to do since the original xbox one wasn’t exactly a graphical beast when it originally came out almost 8 years ago now. I think that a lot of the graphical settings will also be on a higher preset, stuff like shadows or maybe textures or lighting or stuff like that.
That being said, I don’t really expect to be blown away by Halo Infinite’s graphics. I think that the screenshots we have seen so far do look great and I really love the art style, but even in those pc screenshots you can see some issues. Some of the shadows are a little soft and show some jagged edges, and some of the textures on certain surfaces don’t seem to have a lot of dimension to then, they seem kinda painted on if that makes any sense. I personally have never really been blown away by any Halo game’s graphics, and I never really got the impression that either Bungie or 343 ever really tried to raise the bar in terms of graphics anyway. What Bungie always did really well was the art style and the atmosphere of their games. The way things were drawn and looked were honestly iconic and evoked a certain feeling that went beyond just graphics. 343 with Infinite seems to be nailing that same look and feel of the classic Halo games and that to me is what really excites me about Infinite.
At the end of the day, I think Infinite will look nice graphically, but definitely won’t be cutting edge along the lines of something like Battlefield with their destruction, or the old Killzone games that felt like they were made specifically to push new graphical boundaries. And let’s not forget about the destroyer of graphics cards, the infamous Crysis. I hope I’m wrong and Halo Infinite ends up looking amazing and cutting edge, but at least for me personally I have never really looked for that in my Halo game.

agree but i still think IMO the graphics look amazing and i love the artstyle
Oh and will this game have 120FPS on PC?
They could probably get away with calling it next gen with the 3D model ring alone. Then you take into account the resolution and frame rate ambitions and you can slap the next gen stamp on it. Next gen doesn’t specifically mean insane graphics, it certainly can but isn’t limited to it.
Halo Infinite is a cross gen game, so it probably won’t have next gen graphics. It will probably just load faster and look and run a bit better on Series consoles and PC.
Next gen is honestly just a dumb buzz word people throw around.

There’s no reason to believe they’d hard cap it. Whether your PC will be capable of it all depends on your hardware and their optimization.

If they have a hard frame rate cap of any kind on PC I would be very surprised. The PC community would be in a bit of an uproar if that happened. There will most likely be a setting to cap your own frame rate if you wanted to but I’m sure they’ll have unlimited frames as well. They might even have dynamic resolution settings as well if you’re really keen on maintaining frame rate.
on the subject Halo not being a case of raising graphics standards, something to maybe bear in mind is that no other game has the amount of AI being tracked. On older gen and even the fat xbox one I’m guessing some sacrifice comes from there being more taken from recourses in the form of the cpu being taxed by the AI more than most games. It’s a reason I can see why some folk would love to see Infinite running on the faster series cpu
If the gameplay is like the recent screenshots than yes. People tend to compare multiplayer games to single player ones are forget the overhead for those are much less.
I expect the graphics when playing on a Series X or high-end PC to be good, but not Cyberpunk level. It seems like 343 is focusing more on getting the art style right for the visuals over making the game some graphical powerhouse that looks super realistic. Personally, I prefer this approach. From the admittedly limited amount we’ve seen, it really does look like a next-gen version of an original trilogy styled game.
