Halo Infinite - A Clear Need for Classic Mechanics

  • Remove Clamber, Sprint, Thrusters, Ground Pound, ADS and Spartan Charge.

I know it might not seem like it changes the formula a lot, but it does. It really does.
And as evidenced by Halo 3 and even modern FPS like DOOM, you can make a damn good game without all of these ‘advanced movement’ mechanics.

*Map designers purposely create map layouts to accommodate the base player movement. If the map designer wants you to reach someplace, they’ll design the map so that it takes that much time, with regards to the travel speeds. Same can be translated over with clamber. It isn’t needed. At all. If the designer wants you to complete a specific jump on the map, they will make it possible.

Some will argue these elements don’t impact the game too much but they do, pretty severely. Players are traversing across the maps like kangaroos in Halo 5, intimate battles are becoming escape contests. Sure it is fun in other franchises, but it just doesn’t work suppppperrr well as a natural mechanic in Halo. It completely breaks the fundamental formula that was “gun, grenade, and melee” across the original trilogy. Do not include them in multiplayer. Humbly leave them in custom games.

Some might say they’re a necessity to keep Halo relevant or ‘modern’. But at the end of the day, people just wanna play a game that is simple, intimate and fun. You can make arguments on how spartan abilities are good or how 343 should keep working on them. But 343 has had two games to do that now. It’s time to go back to the roots of what people fell in love with. There was clearly a much more pleased audience between Halo 3 to now. And no the market or era isn’t to blame. Halo 3 did just fine against other FPS’ like Modern Warfare, Battlefield, MW2. All games that had ‘advanced movement’ abilities.

Bring back some of the most iconic features of classic halo and expand on those:

  • Equipment (Bubble Shield, Grav lift, Health Regenerator, Power Drain, Radar Jam, Flare)
  • Innovative game modes like Invasion, Headhunter, Firefight

As a player from HCE and all the way up to H5, I kind of likes the spartan abilities. It makes the spartan feel like a supersoldier and makes the gameplay flow nicely. I agree with you that the classic trio, gun, grenade & meele should be a thing in Infinite. I think they should make the campaign without spartan abilities and have a dedicated section in MP with classic mechanics with all the playlists but I also want a MP with a dedicated section with spartan abilities, armor abilities & equipment items.
