Halo: Hunters in the Dark - Official Summary

> It is 2555, more than two years after the Master Chief went missing-in-action following a decisive conflict on Installation 00—the massive, extragalactic Forerunner construct known as the Ark—as part of the final chapter in humanity’s bloody thirty-year struggle against the overwhelming forces of the Covenant. Now, as a tenuous peace exists between the humans and the Elites, a startling scientific discovery is made…and the riddle behind its Forerunner origins could very well seal the fate of the entire galaxy within a matter of weeks. In order to unravel these dangerous secrets, a heroic, hastily formed coalition of humans and Elites must attempt to overcome their differences as they embark on a covert mission back to the Ark—an astonishing, enigmatic place beyond comprehension from which few have returned and where mortal danger awaits them all…

Sorry if old!

This is the first time I’ve seen this summery, and it sounds AWESOME! So exciting to hear that we’re going back to the Ark, which really helps the theory that Halo 5 will have something to do with the Ark as well.

I think I screamed like a little piggy inside

Hope it shows in a clever and realistic way how humans deal with the elites, I don’t like this new canon that tends to forget all their sins and all the hate that there is against ex covenant races. This said, if we both want to shoot to the same -Yoinks!- it’s okay to do it together, but realistically we can’t become best friends because of this, especially given that the elites hate us as much as we hate them, but they don’t have nothing to pardon us for, while we are giving a maybe too quick and easy pardon for a galactic genocide.

An expedition two years before the UNSC Rubicon gets taken over by Chakas? Intriguing.

Rubicon was part of a task force deployed to the Ark in June 2557 (Primordium, p. 376). A crewman yells, “Ship’s veering from the main task force. We’re moving away from all the action!” when Spark takes over. I didn’t think much of it at the time the book was released.

Now that so much focus is on the Ark I can’t help but wonder what sort of “action” this task force was involved with. Could it be the expedition from Hunters in the Dark, having remained on station the whole time? If so, what have they found? Will they still be there when Halo 5 rolls around? June is too far away!

Joint Sangheili-human operations? YEAH! I’m ready!

One of my favorite subjects in the lore is Sangheili perception of humans (except in Kilo-Five); hopefully this story features a lot of that.

Actually, we don’t know when the Rubicon was dispatched to the Ark. All we know is that all communication with the ship itself was lost in under 9 days following its arrival at the Ark, and that Chakas took over the ship to go after “the elusive Lifeshaper” on July 2nd 2557.

They could well have been at the Ark for 2 years. In Primordium’s ending, the Rubicon moving away from the “main task force” is mentioned which means that other ships were present with it.

Well… I’m excited. Very excited. I imagine Halo: Shadow of Intent also has something to do with this.

The fourth Eleventh Hour report implies that Rubicon was there for just a few days, having been dispatched straight from Luna.

Catalog said that Rubicon was declared [naufragum] on July 2, 2557, but from what I understand the ship went missing before this date. I don’t know when. Similar to how the Spirit of Fire went missing in 2531, but was declared lost with all hands in 2534.

Rubicon went missing in June and was declared lost on July 2.

Yeah, I see your post above, but I’ve never been beyond page 150 something of Primordium, so it wasn’t very clear to me. So Primordium happens in June 2557.

So the next novel may not feature the Rubicon, if it’s set in 2555.

More Lore featuring the Sangheili? Wow…we totally don’t have enough of that…

You kind of have a point the sanghelli and humans are obvious favorites.

Humans and Sangheili are the closest diplomatically, so there is that. Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to see more interaction with humans and other Covenant species.

They are also politically and militarily the most influential forces, hence will shape events more than other groups will. The Brutes are missing a little too much though.

This is true, and this will stay true until 343 remembers that there are other races in the lore. I am officially bored of the Sangheili. I want to see The Jiralhanae. They can very well be the runner-up for galactic influence. 343 took the time to establish Lydus; a Brute that IS interested in diplomacy with Humanity and the Sangheili, only to forget he exists.

Bring back Lydus and his pack. Show us more about Lydus and how he runs things. Focusing on the Sangheili non-stop does NOT move the lore forward.

If you’re already bored with the sangheili, you must be exhausted with dissapointment with all the Spartan/human focus then.

Not to mention they are currently the two most dominate species in the galaxy so far and will be the ones who will shape the galaxies future. Though I do agree the brutes need more time in the sun.
