Ok guys I am having a crisis. Being the fan that I am, I want a set of the Halo Astros. But there are two different ones, the A-50 Master chief ones and the A-40 Halo 5 ones. Do any of you have them? If so opinions would be most appreciated…

A-50s are wireless. A-40s are wired. I personally love wired headsets and wired controls, because you never have to recharge them. As for the headsets, they are identical in terms of sound and voice capabilities.
Oh and make sure the headset you buy comes with the AMP. Some Astro headsets come without it, so just be cautious.
The A40s come with a req pack in the box regardless of where you purchase them. The A50s were made prior to the whole REQ system bundling and they only offer a REQ pack via email if you buy directly from ASTRO.
I personally like the wireless capability of the A50s. I don’t have to be tethered to my console, which is especially nice when I’m just playing solo and don’t have the mic cable plugged in. Or I’m watching Netflix in bed I can just take the headset to the other side of my room with me wire free.
I was wondering myself… ive never bought a pair and i thought now would be a good time to invest in some.
The big difference between the two is that the A40’s come with the M80 mix amp, it just plugs into the bottom of the controller and gives you stereo sound. The A50’s have a mix amp the plugs right into the Xbox and gives you wireless simulated surround sound, you do still need to plug a cable into the controller to get chat though. I have a pair of the non-Halo A50’s and I love them. I was skeptical of the simulated surround sound until I gave it a go, I was quite surprised to find my self swinging around and aiming directly at the guy that was running up behind me. As far as battery life is concerned, I play maybe 1-2 hours a night through the week and longer on weekends, I find i’m plugging them in to charge once a week.
I vote the A50s cause they are chief themed. I have the skullcandy halo slyr edition ones and they work great.
I have a pair of the A40s. Although, I bought the PS4 version so that I could get the Mix Amp Pro, since buying it separately is much more expensive. You will also need to buy the AG1 cable separately to make the PS4 A40s to have voice with the Xbox. One other downside of the PS4 A40s is that they only come in one color, which is no big deal for me.
Anyways, the A40s with the Mix Amp Pro means that you will have more wires. The A40s with the MX80 amp plugs directly in the controller, which means less cables running from the xbox to your headset. The Mix Amp Pro will give you virtual surround sound, while the MX80 can only give you stereo.
If you buy the A50s, less cables to mess with, and you get virtual surround sound. You still need to plug the AG1 cable into the headset to make the mic work, but that only goes from the controller to the headset. I heard th battery life is also pretty good. I say get the A50s, because if you want a Halo themed one, and if you are spending that kind of money on a headset, then you might as well get the virtual surround sound capabilities as well. The Halo/Xbox One A40s are a rip off since they do not come with the Mix Amp Pro.
As for both headsets, they are comfortable, so you can have them on for extended hours with no discomfort.
I have both.
The A50s do sound slightly better then the A40s they are not more or less wireless as they do need to connect to the controller for voice chat, I personally recommend the a40s as you will only have to worry about one thing running out of batteries…
if you plan on using it for watching movies or using it on PC/ other consoles then get the a50s but for using it exclusively on xbox the slight boost in sound quality doesn’t justify the price difference or dealing with multiple sets of batteries (controller bats and headset)
