I agree, it is no longer a pure arena shooter, but I see a lot of people complaining (a -Yoinking!- lot) saying that this is now class-based and involves no skill.
Imagine a 1v1 battle. One guy has a jetpack, the other has Promethean vision. They are both wielding BRs, no nades, just their trusty three-shootygun. I would like you to tell me the advantages one has over one another. The jetpack guy has more mobility, but vertical mobility is very situational to be helpful. In big, open maps, it’s pretty much useless. The promy vision guy will have an advantage, but not in this situation. Most, if not all, perks/AAs/other stuff have counters that can handle them effectively.
Then, of course, some people will argue about how much more fast paced it is. This is true. I really dislike the instant respawn, because it makes you feel expendable and rushed. However, I quite like the idea of sprint. Halo needs new mechanics to keep it fresh. If you want to play a new halo 3, play halo 3. This is a different game, from a different company.
You realize the entire game is going to change once people start hitting sr50?
Almost no one has unlocked specializations yet.

What does that have to do with anything in my post?

Everything. Including the title of your post.

Please elaborate.

Not terribly. New armor mods wont change the game significantly, especially since they replace the other mods.

His point is that when people hit SR50 and start changing their specializations then its going to be a major game changer. Those specializations are classes for sure.
Halo is still an arena shooter. The AA’s play such a minor role and are severly nerfed. If anything PV kills cmaping and hiding aorund corners with power weapons and turns encounters into duals rather than rock paper scissor of who saw who first and what you were packing. Now opponents cna see each other way before combat and the most skilled player prevails, not the luckiest.
Halo now is more halo than ever. With kill times as fast as they are one player can again make a difference and take on multiple opponents quickly while in reach it was all but impossible without a power weapon.
I have been playing online since console Halo CE with xbox connect was both a 37 H2 and 50 and onyx and I will tell you H4 is halo to the core. No if ands or buts about it.

Give me 3 days. (Thank XP Cap for severely slowing me down)
OT: I agree. All I see in the games are different weapons being used and AA’s. The Armor Mods are barely noticeable, and while AA’s are more noticeable, they’re still used less than the weapons of course. The only see I see different from Halo 4 and 1/2/3/Reach is the starting weapons. DMR, BR, Light Rifle, AR, Storm Rifle, etc…, and even then, these aren’t bad at all.
Halo 4 has classes, but it is not a class-based shooter.
