If you watch the Reach vidoc they say “two men enter, the better man leaves and the other guy is left respawning and that’s Halo.”
A lot of these new features seem to be changing that. Now I not for or against the features as my judgement will not pass until I see some valid gameplay or play the game myself.
For all we know these features might make the game more competitive. CoD has similar features. CoD has been on the MLG circuit in the past and it has worked to a degree. Maybe mixing it with the aspect of Halo might make it better.
Just some food for thought.
That was reach, at the heart of the original was FUN MP was an afterthought to the campaign. Halo has always centered around FUN regardless of what “MLG”, “pro”, and “competitive” gamers think

The fun argument really does not help with anyone. Fun is subjective. My definition of fun is playing competitively. Yours is different. That’s fine but competitive community shouldn’t be overlooked because of your views.
Halo was fun for most people because it was competitive but it excluded the more casual gamers. The amount of casual gamers has grown over the past couple of years due to parents buying their 10 year old sons [EDIT: and daughters - not to be sexist] 18 year old games. This means that Halo needs to change its attitude to get money and attract casuals.
Halo can easily be both and I’m sure it will be.

That’s the only way it’s going to be a huge success. Although the way the competitive community stands will depend on how default plays.
If MLG is completely different than default like it was in Reach, a lot of people won;t play it because it is too different.
You’d think this thread will get more replies.

Halo 4 should have something for everyone. No group should be neglected.
So far
It seems like competitive players are being neglected
People who like to play as Elites have also been neglected
Let’s just hope this trend of neglection doesn’t continue
“two men enter, the man with armor lock leaves and the other guy is left respawning and that’s Halo.”

If you’re incompetent, sure.

Halo multiplayer has centered around competition, since CE.
Go watch any old school videos from Bungie, multiplayer will be all about pwning your competition with your friends.
My point, exactly

Halo reach sucks lol and it was a just big halo social game with a crappy ranking system and stupid ideas such as AA’s and MLG and pro gamers brought halo to the next level

Actually it hasn’t, but competition still is a big part. Most of the competition started with Halo 2.
Most of CE multiplayer on PC is mods, rockets, warthog races, zombie mods, and stupid stuff like “Cops N Robbers.”
I get infinite enjoyment from killing the nubz playing Cops N Robbers in CE. Makes them angry, makes me happy.
It’s actually hard to get a real server on CE.
Things such as join in progress, lack of a ranking system, and X-treme lag remove almost all competition in CE.
CE on PC had almost no competition.
I don’t know about the XBox with system link. I guess it depends on the lag level, gamemode, and people playing.

Reach is awesome if you have an open mind and care about anything besides competition in Halo. And it does have a decent amount of competition. But not enough.
Campaign was first, Halo was just a casual game turned competitive by gamers who wanted more (and to beat their rivals at LAN). You want to go play a good competitive game that was developed to be competitive? Go play Quake or Unreal Tournament. Much more competitive than Halo was.
Those who believe CE was built to be competitive from the ground up, are fooling themselves when you consider the changes made the following sequels Bungie made for it’s MP default settings (which btw lead to one gun rifles, power weapons, changing the settings, and getting rid of of the sandbox by MLG).
It will be interested to see how 343 handles Halo 4 competitively.

Agree with everything except the one gun rifles thing.
I would rather have one gun rifles than a “god pistol.”
CE sandbox wasn’t that great. All that got used were the pistol and power weapons. The AR was never used, neither were the needler or plasma rifle.

What i was saying that the game revolved around the god pistol concept. Except it was to a lesser degree and we were given BR for 2,3 and the DMR for Reach. The same design processes lead to a terribly unbalanced sandbox that favored those guns instead of having every gun having their high skill ceilings.
While i loved the utility rifles, i wasn’t a fan of having the other weapons just sit there and eventually get stripped down by MLG (which i don’t hate btw). Better to put the disk space to something else than having weapons that are not useful.

I have played Quake 3(Extensively),CS, and UT, all take different skills from Halo(Although similar in some regards). You could say those take more aiming skill, but those franchises are all PC franchises, old game design wise, and made at a time when hardcore PC gaming was at its prime. Some People just have a hard time accepting Halo because its console and not a solely multiplayer focused game like those games are, the track record of Halo games taking huge skill speak for itself veteran Halo players will -Yoink- on any newbie Halo players and the top Halo players in the world (OGRES,Walshy,T2, Strongside) have remained on top of the Halo scene for close to a decade. I have learned that the people who hate on Halo competitively are usually really bad at it.
I think the casual market is where the money is at, though I guess I do hope they cater to you competitive folk if it helps Halo in the long run. Is this tread defining cometitive players as players that want an equal sandbox at the start of the match? Everyone starts the same and has the same oppurtunities? That’s how I’ve come to learn “competitive” means now. I don’t personally like that style of game- I love Reach’s crazy unpredictable nature
Not trying to get a heated argument going, I really do hope they make room for the competitive community to have fun. I think they will cater to the competitive crowd, if that makes you feel better lol.
> I have learned that the people who hate on Halo competitively are usually really bad at it.
I hope you weren’t talking about me lol I’m not that bad… though I also respect the competitive community…

I am not saying anything bad about competitive Halo though. I love a good game where everyone knows what to do and the team work is very coordinated and tight. I just felt like those games (off the bat) were hardcore whereas Halo CE it wasn’t designed to an uber competitive shooter off the bat. The Campaign was the main draw, at first anyways.
