HALO: Harvest

What was it like to see “them” for the first time? To fight them without the Spartan-II’s on that day. What was it like to be Johnson on that day? What was first contact like? What was Harvest like?

A game set on Harvest and playing not a Spartan, but a regular marine, what would that be like. You wouldn’t be just any marine though, you’d be Johnson! What do you all think?

Meh. Just read Contact Harvest. We don’t need another Halo Reach fiasco.

The first contact isn’t action packed enough to make a good game, which means they’d have to bend the canon to make it work. And we don’t want that. The book is great, though.

Then what about later in in the days of Harvest, the Spirit of Fire could be present.

We have Halo wars for that.
A brief summary of the events in it as well.

Just saying Johnson is technically a Spartan.

If they did do that and had Johnson as the player character, they should make it a plot twist, maybe in the Legendary ending.

I really wish people would stop saying this. It’s so wrong. He was a part of the Orion Project that people have dubbed the Spartan-1’s, just because it worked with creating super soldiers. He is NOT a Spartan and NEVER was.

He may not be a Spartan.

But Johnson is sure up there on the list of bad*** characters in the Halo Universe.

Now that is definitely true.

He’s an honorary Spartan. Halsey’s program was in fact “Orion II” but Halsey renamed it “Spartan” to try and avoid the stigma of that project’s failure. She chose to call her program “Spartan II” however because she not only wanted to pay respect to those who gave their lives to the first program, but also because her program relied so heavily on it’s own research. So the programs are pretty much the same, which makes Johnson a Spartan I just as much as John 117 is an Orion II.

Johnson IS a Spartan.

Honorary Spartan, sure. Full fledged Spartan… nah.

But what makes someone a full fledged Spartan? Being a kidnapped six year old? MJOLNIR armor? A simple name swap doesn’t change the fact that the Orion and Spartan programs are one and the same. John 117 and the other Spartans are technically Orion IIs and that’s why Halsey renames it Spartan “II”. As far as she is concerned they are all Spartans. The first Orions and her kidnapped kiddies alike.

Technically Orion IIs? That’s not really how military projects work. Things go through name changes all the time, they change, and they don’t use old names for current projects. You can think he’s a Spartan all you want. But guess what? He was NOT a part of a SPARTAN program. That’s just the way things are. I’m sure you’ll argue this though, so whatever, I honestly don’t care. Think whatever you want, it doesn’t affect me in the slightest.

Edit: You asked what made someone a Spartan. You know what makes them a Spartan? Being a part of a SPARTAN program.

"I finally have my name.

I am tired of incessantly referring to ‘The Orion Project Generation Two’ in my official notes, reports, and briefings. Also, the vice admiral ‘hinted’ that rechristening the project would serve to distance us from the failures of ORION in the minds of the politico and military bureaucrats controlling our budget. I’ve always bristled at the mythological Orion reference anyway… a Greek hero who was once blinded and met, in my opinion, a rather silly demise.
I’ve had Deja and Jorjet give me a refresher on military history. After many contenders (Praetorians, Landsknecht, Immortals, Minutemen), I’ve chosen SPARTAN as the name that best represents our project’s aims.

That said, a part of me still wants to honor the sacrifices of those men and women from the original ORION effort; after all, the research from ORION has proved invaluable for my current work. So in memory of those who have come before, and with hope for those yet to come, I’ll call this project SPARTAN-II."

If I’m arguing with you it’s because your opinion does not trump fact. The Spartan program was Orion Gen 2 officially and only changed to avoid stigma. In the end the project had the same objective and she wanted to honor the Orions by calling her project Spartan II. This retroactively makes them Spartans in the eyes of those who serve today.

EDIT: Go to the Universe section of Waypoint and read up on the Spartans faction. You’ll see it has Orion listed with the other Spartan generations.

Ok, I own the journal too, so what was the point? Also, it WAS the Orion II program and how it started, but was changed later on. Yes, they both aimed for the same outcome, so should we classify every super soldier program as a Spartan program? Because from you’re saying we should.

Good idea, just don’t make it Johnson.
You can play as, say, Jenkins. You get to watch your world go from happy and calm to completely burned and escape aboard a cargo container just like in the book

(Also to add to the discussion above; Johnson is indeed technically a Spartan. The Orion project is officially part of the overall Spartan program; It goes Orion/Spartan-I, Spartan 1.1 (at least according to ilovebees) Spartan-II, Spartan-III, Spartan-IV.)
