Lets talk about Halos ever evolving combat!
The first entry of Halo is titled Halo Combat Evolved. Now it’s been 20 years since. So has Halos combat actually evolved? And with the new Halo Infinite, 343 has explained why the use of the word Infinite. Now it only makes sense that Halo has infinite potential and possibilities too evolve especially its combat game play.
I really love the introduction of assassinations by Bungie! Back when Halo Wars came out, I always wanted Halo too implement a close combat system. Like Uncharteds hand-to-hand fighting for example. Or like Gears of Wars button bashing duals! Something that let’s you really get up close and personal! You read and watch the Halo material. And the animation shows a Spartans capabilities, and the stories have you imagining a Spartan and Elite fighting up close and personal with a combat knife and a energy sword! Then you play the games and it can be real disappointing when a Spartan can only melee each other (aside from the assassination). About the combat system: For example; it would be awesome if you had a quick second escape button that avoids an assassination and kind of looks like a parry or counter in a fighting game or Uncharted!! (You’ve seen in Uncharted how the fighting system controls allows almost both too attack and counter seamlessly looking like actual combat.)…
So every player will have a meter or two meter safe-distance from behind, so that if invaded from behind with a assassination attempt, the players will quickly be alerted with a quick pop-up counter button. And “if successfully countered”, it opens a quick display of pop-up button options. One button(X e.g) which allows the player to attempt (after countering) a frontal assassination which can be countered, and the other button for example (Y e.g) opens up hand-to-hand combat fighting, and the other button option (B e.g) could simply allow your players to get quickly back in the fast paced game for a quick-return-fire kill… … “this is just my example of the ideas of how a Halo Combat Evolved system could play out in a game.” There’s so many ways you guys could take it with the skills you all have✊🏼 You could see what the team thinks about it? About bringing too life some of those stories and animations of a Spartans combat life and capabilities and close encounters with enemies.
Another quick pop-up button (A e.g) could allow a button bash dual with a quick kill outcome like Gears.
I think this one way of entering a variety of up close and personal combat situations via assassination attempts - would be awesome. Because it would actually make an assassination attempt a high-risk move!! It would also leave you at the other players discretion whether they want too attempt a finishing assassination on you or enter a hand-to-hand combat fighting, or contest in a button bash dual too decide a equal fair but quick death for either player, or simply end all options allowing quick return fire for a normal fast-paced Halo game!!! And just as your approach from different angles affect your assassination move; the same principle should still apply to the final death animation outcome of a successful assassination-attempt or counter-assassination-attempt or the outcome of a dual-death or hand-to-hand fighting death… And maybe you could enter these combat situations not just via a assassination attempt from different angles behind, but also from a frontal position…
• Also the variety-combat-situations that open up too the player after a successful Assassination-Counter - would be affected greatly by the weapons they hold. ((E.g Combat Knife))
• For example: if both holding a Energy Sword, the Hand-to-Hand Combat would be a Sword-to-Sword fight. Or it could be a Hand-to-Sword fight if one doesn’t bear a Sword, making it harder for that bare handed Player. (Spartan bare handed vs Elite Zealot + Sword)
• Being able too Free a Team Mate from Combat-Evolved-Situations would be a option also. Allowing Saviour medals!
• I think it would be even more diversely dynamic if you could Counter & Counteract more than one Player or AI! Allowing for a more diverse Combat Evolved Experience! So in my mind this is how I would word it.
• Combat-Evolved-Experience: [CEE)
• Assassination Attempt
• Assassination Counter (if successful opens CEE/CES)
• Combat-Evolved-Situations (E.g 4 Options)
(1)After Counter- Frontal Assassination Attempt (Can be countered also etc etc)
(2)After Counter- Hand-to-Hand Combat etc (E.g Uncharted)
(3)After Counter- Death Dual Outcome (E.g Gears of War) (4)After Counter- Close Combat system (for quick return fire etc)
For more Diverse Combat Evolved Experiences; here’s other game play options:
• Save Team Mates from Combat-Evolved-Situations etc.
• Engage more than one Player or AI in Combat-Evolved-Situations etc.
• Combat Knifes are default too Spartans and Elites their own etc.
• Swords, Hammers, Combat knives etc effects Combat-Evolved-Experience.
• Spartan and Elite physics effect Combat-Evolved-Experiences.
• Third-Person when in Combat-Evolved-Situations etc. Well this is my idea in a nutshell.
It would be awesome if 343 ever thought about implementing a Halo Combat Evolved System that allows up close and personal combat situations !! I’ve always wondered if Halo would steer a bit in that direction and introduce something as new and exciting and diverse as a close combat system!! With a mix of Tekken Counteracts, a drop of Gears of War duals and some form of Uncharted fighting!! Versatile and diverse with Infinite possibilities for a Halo Player! And literally it would attest too the Halo subtitle of Infinite future possibilities!! And paying Homage and respect also too the first Halo entry, Halo Combat Evolved!! While introducing a new era of Halo possibilities!. This indeed would be the Halo Infinite!!
and yeah a frontal assassination as a winning outcome would be awesome at the end of a button bash dual or a hand-to-hand combat fight. A way too finish victoriously in style!! And the assassinations or finishing move would still depend on the start of your positioning stance or angle from the opponent.
different from the front and back
