> It has been noted that threads of the story will have connections to Halo 4
From the Halo Wikipedia page for Halo: Glasslands, the book that released today. I read it and it left me with some questions.
So, I was wondering what plots from the book will have connections to the next game? Yes, we know that Halsey is informed that John and Cortana are MIA but I doubt that could be all.
Anyways, for those unaware…
- Halsey is arrested for crimes against the UNSC.
- Fred, Kelly, Linda and the other Spartans are rescued, along with Mendez, from the Shield World.
- Problems continue between Humans and Sanghelli
- Spartan IV project is in work with similarities to the original ORION project
- The Spartans gain access to family files to find their past
Not to sure about a Spartan-IV project yet, no resources. Besides we still have over 300 S-IIIs left in operation.
Page 434, following Halsey’s arrest. Parangosky explains the future of the Spartans to Halsey.
“There won’t be any program-not like the Spartan-Twos anyway. Or the Spartan-Threes, if I can help it. We’re going back to using consenting adults now, like we did in Project Orion.”
“Now?”
"Yes, another project you were never told about. The fourth-phase Spartans."
If ONI has pretty much decided on the Spartans mirroring the ORION project, I’d assume no SPI or similar armor would be used. Simply specialized training.
Ah man, I didn’t know that was part of the book. Should’ve asked for no spoilers. But now that I learn of this, -Yoink- 343. A new Spartan project already? -Yoink- 343.

Ah Sorry, I figured it would have been a bit obvious from the first post.
I wonder if they might be charged in finding the remains of Chief.
Yeah, it’s not your fault. I thought you were talking speculation. But, a new Spartan project so soon after the war? Where are they getting the funds for this?

Dunno. I’m assuming the Spartans would have training similar to the Spartan II’s and III’s, minus the specialized armor due to funding cuts.
Or they may just redirect the funds from the research department due to Halsey’s
“deception.”
Didn’t 343 know there are still over 300+ Gamma Company Spartan-IIIs they could’ve used instead?
> Didn’t 343 know there are still over 300+ Gamma Company Spartan-IIIs they could’ve used instead?
The only Spartan III Gamma Company recruits still alive at the beginning of Glasslands were…
[/li]- Ash-G099 - Active in Shield World.
- Mark-G??? - Active in Shield World.
- Olivia-G??? - Active in Shield World.[4]
Lucy and Tom are also still alive but they were Beta company.
I’m assuming ONI cancelled the Spartan III program because they don’t want anymore youth to be used for the programs, hence the new IV program.
No, it was mentioned in Ghosts of Onyx that Katana, Gladius, and Saber stayed for honors, yet the total size of Gamma Company was 330. Where did they go?

From Halopedia on Gamma Company…
Gamma Company
Team Gladius – KIA - Found deceased after several days of fleeing from Sentinels.
Team Katana - Inside Slipspace Field Pods in Shield World. Currently traveling with surviving SPARTAN-IIIs/IIs.
Team Saber
Holly-G003 - KIA [3]
Ash-G099 - Active in Shield World.
Dante-G188 - KIA
Mark-G??? - Active in Shield World.
Olivia-G??? - Active in Shield World.[4]
Headhunters
Team 1
Jonah - KIA
Roland - KIA
Team 2
Unnamed SPARTAN-III - KIA
Unnamed SPARTAN-III - KIA
Unknown company
Thom-293 - KIA
Rosenda-344- Unknown status
As you can see, nearly all the Spartan’s in Gamma Company are KIA or Unknown (Katana team is in Cryo and near dead). It’s possible others were on Onyx and unaccounted for or on a mission for ONI.
I just have these
Halopedia and the book also state the total size of Gamma Company was 330. I know the members of Gamma who went into the Micro Dyson Sphere. There are still a good 300 left away from Onyx.

The other 300 most likely ended up on a suicide mission against the Covenant, like Alpha and Beta company were sent on. I don’t know as we were never filled in on where they went though.
We do not know. But honestly, 343 had no purpose for them despite them being the finest Spartans ever according to Kurt? The S-IVs are unnecessary.
> We do not know. But honestly, 343 had no purpose for them despite them being the finest Spartans ever according to Kurt? The S-IVs are unnecessary.
I don’t think they are unnecessary, just not understood.
ONI and Halsey stole children to breed for war, taking away any chance at life they had to create the ultimate fighting team. Halsey was most likely not the only one carrying guilt for doing so.
After Ambrose’s 3 squads of Spartan III’s and the deaths of nearly 1,000 children over the course of that time, ONI most likely decided that once the war ended, no new Spartan team would be formed using children.
Hence the Spartan IV’s. ONI still wants the Super Soldiers, but not enough to use children. So they are creating them using adults, similar to the ODST’s were a voluntary group.
So instead of working with what they have, which is arguably the best Spartan class of any generation, they proceed to make new Spartans? To me, it just doesn’t seem necessary. If it’s with consenting adults, okay, but then that raises the point of funding, armor and whether or not augmentations are safe enough to use on people after puberty.
Who knows.

But we don’t know what they had left. I’m assuming the best of Gamma company were kept on Onyx to avoid the suicide mission the rest of the Squad went on. And since Onyx was destroyed in a sense, there were only 3 of Gamma Company left.
It was mentioned they went on deployments in the book and on Halopedia. Maybe we’ll find out some day , but even if they were sent on a suicide mission, they wouldn’t all die. Afterall, they are tougher to kill.

Depends. While trained better, the SPI armor they had was still fairly weak.
Actually, they did have the newest SPI armor and they were given an augmentation that actually makes them harder to kill. Remember Dante? Side full of needler shards and he thought he just got nicked. Should’ve been dead but wasn’t until a little while later.
