After 1 year of release we had the following…
Halo 2: 3 Maps Packs (9 Maps total), plus 3 “Auto-Updates” to fix bugs and glitches
Halo 3: 2 Maps Packs + Cold Storage (7 total) AND 2 title updates
Halo Reach: 2 Map Packs (6 maps total)
Halo 2 and Halo 3 were supported with updates and map packs, pretty much right up to the release of the following Halo game. This is one reason why people played the game s for so long. I love these games. I hope this title update won’t be the end of Reach, till Halo 4 comes out. I’m not bashing 343, but the argument “They just took control, give it time” isn’t valid. They knew about the problems in Reach, and the turnover long before we did.
I really hope this title update gets released by the end of this month. I can’t think of any other game, whose distributor, parades around a title update as if it is a new game release. The function of a Title Update is to fix things that came to light after release. It’s really not the same as a map pack or any other DLC. The amount of press Microsoft is giving this title update makes it seem like, to me, everyone was aware of these problems from the start! Announcing a title update at TGS? What is that? Halo Reach isn’t even the most played game on XBL! I could understand if it was, this would be big news, but it isn’t. I hope the title update is enough to bring this game back, but I fear it’s too late. I love the Halo games, and I’ll keep playing Reach, but the population is depleting. Here’s hoping for the TU very VERY soon.
Reach was designed in such a way that minor changes and fixes could be made without any kind of update to the game itself. That’s why there hasn’t been a Title Update for Reach already, the game doesn’t need one.
The Title Update that 343i will soon release is a pretty big deal because it’s not really for fixing bugs or “broken” gameplay aspects (though I’m sure there’s some of each) but rather to increase the developer’s ability to change the game without further updating the game itself.
I guess one reason we didn’t get as many DLCs and TUs yet as in previous games is the transition of the Halo franchise from Bungie to 343i. And that’s on top of the fact that Reach is the worst Halo game so far; not saying it’s a bad game, just saying it’s rather bad for a Halo game.
You make it sound like all TUs are important as Halo2’s first one was. I do suggest looking up what changes were made in both of Halo3’s TU as they are very minor in comparison to Halo2’s first TU (which Halo2 was like a Beta till the first TU.)

This is the main reason for the lack of TUs.
As for the lack of support on the DLC side, if Forge World and the upcoming CEA map pack, plus the 6 other maps for DLC already available, plus the ability to create Alpha Zombies, Chess and some really whacky Action Sack minded games (though still lacking the VIP) without a TU is a sign of a bad game, then I don’t think I could trust you to help me find a good game.
