Bringing you a whole new meaning to opening up a can of worms… Discuss.
They broke canon again. Chief hadn’t met a Hunter before the battle of Sigma Octanus iV in FoR. Secondly, Kelly looked way too short. Otherwise it was the second best episode after #4.

The part about the Hunters was retconned with the Definitive Edition, so it does not break canon.

I’ve never read the new edition of the fall of reach, what does it say about encountering the hunters that’s different?
I thought it was great.
The lekgolo worm was really cool, just made it more real. I’d never thought of them surviving like that before. I also HATE slugs, snails and worms (I don’t know why, I just find them disgusting. I’ve often squealed in a less-than-manly fashion because I thought I stepped on a slug), so seeing a worm-thing that big creeped me out a bit.
Also thought it was really cool seeing Fred and Kelly. Wasn’t fond of their armour though, what was going off with Kelly’s helmet? They would have looked perfect if they were wearing the same armour as Chief though. I just prefer that uniformity through spartans, plus Chief’s armour looked better.

Hmm, actually I just reread both the original scene and my 2010 copy, (which is actually pre-definitive edition), and they pretty much play out the same way. This is odd because I could have sworn it was different. They changed the part about the Elites and the Brutes in First Strike though. I reread part of First Strike a second ago and they have no trouble identifying them as Hunters during the invasion of Reach so it’s kind of odd to keep that confusion in Fall of Reach.
Still, Hunters appear in Halo Wars and Halo Reach which retcons the whole “never seen before” aspect in the book.
Never seeing hunters/whatever until that late in the war is pretty silly anyways. Glad it’s retconned.
Also, I imagine kelly/freds armor was just reused deliver hope armor. Don’t think they were going to make 2 full new MK IV suits for a couple minute scene in which most of their armor is obscured.
Eh, the only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the armor choices for Fred/ Kelly. Not a massive deal, I mean they’re finally in an instance outside of the novels while being owned my the new gaming company. Just wish Fred had been in his EOD and Kelly in the EVA from their appearances in Legends, but still, just minor qualms (not like a spartan can’t change armor sets ever).
That aside, this whole series has me pumped for the game and games to come, especially with another non novel (and now potential ‘game’ cannon) tie in for the other spartan II’s.
The episode was awesome so was the music! I hate to complain but wtf why did they rehash the Mark V’s (Six and Kat’s) from the Reach commercials! It almost broke canon but I realized that Grey team wore almost identical armor. Sigh… Cole Protocol you barely saved Halo canon.

I thought it was okay in Halo Wars because the SoF never reported back to the UNSC?
No excuse for Reach, though.
I loved the small details and nods to the spartans and spartan program. The thud of each of MCs footsteps, a 3-story drop being nothing to him, being twice as large as the other actors and finally the nod to the possible age of the spartans.
The inclusion of Chief picking up a memento (even tho he gave it to Lasky) seem to speak a lot about the Chief.
If I had any real issue is how quickly the warthog was disabled.
I understand them re using the deliver hope armor, they didn’t have a lot of time to get this all done. Nor did they have the budget to make 3 individual suits of armor. All in all it was well done.

Hunters were encountered and documented several times before 2552. By 2552, the Chief had taken part in over 200 campaigns against the Covenant. It’s unlikely he would have only encountered Hunters for the first time in 2552.

Could easily mean “Never had seen a hunter pair that big.” in the book
I mean, the hunters foot squashed (IIRC) an entire jackal’s TORSO.
After the first Hunter, I was worried they were not going to show any Chief on Hunter action…
Was I wrong!!!
One question: was the item Chief picked up a rock from the planet, or a piece of Hunter armor?

Hunter armor

Yeah, I thought that was lame too. I’ve crushed literally hundreds of enemies with the warthog in-game, and those things can take a beating (but we all know that). So if they were going to hit something and have it get disabled I would have preferred it be an Elite or something, maybe even a Brute. Something with a little more mass so that it didn’t seem so hashed.

I just thought most of the damage was done by the plasma grenade and the Jackal was just the last straw. Plus didnt warning keep popping up on the screen?
I happened to enjoy the series very much. Despite any canon discontinuities, it was very well produced. If they ever decide to do a Halo movie, that’s how it should be done.
I can’t complain anyway, today is my birthday and 343 gave me the last episode of Forward Unto Dawn!

Sigge’s right. Beside, we don’t know what kind of damage the vehicle took before Lasky started driving it. Remember how hard it was for him to start?
And honestly, you cannot compare how the vehicle works in-game to how it works in-universe. The games have to make changes for the sake of gameplay. For example, when was the last time you head-shotted a Jackal with a single bullet from an AR?
