Not sure if this is the right forum or not, so please forgive me if i’ve messed up & post in the wrong section…
The reason i’ve made this thread, is to invite any one that might be interested in Forge to join my little group on deviantArt. You’ll need to register an account on dA if you don’t already have one… but it will afford you the opportunity to post up your maps with images, & healthy description.
I know there are dedicated websites out there that deal specifically with Forge… such as ForgeHub & X-forge… but if you’re anything like me, you’ll hate the arrogance that seems to go hand-in-hand with them communities. At least on dA, we can just submit our maps in a much more neutral environment without the risk of our efforts being voted down
So here’s the link to the dA group: LINK
If the group becomes active enough, & a good community can be built, i’ll put my hand in my pocket & convert it to a super-group… which will afford us more possibilities
i don’t mean to be a joy killer but there is enough forge comunities out there.
xforgery
blueprint
forge cafe
forever forgers
satyros
reachingperfection
halo4ger
there are more in active ones starded by people just like you but these listed are the main places to go and have more activity while being able to meet new people and get good decent feedback on your maps and you can also provide feedback on other peoples maps.
That’s fine, you’re welcome to your opinion, & I won’t be offended
It’s just that i’ve had experience with dedicated Forge communities in the past. I have to say that i’ve always been less than impressed by them. But tbf, i’ve only ever been a member of the two sites i’ve stated in the OP.
As far as the group is concerned on dA… it dawned on me that I had never seen a specialized Forge group on there. So I decided to set one up & see how it go’s. Obviously, it’s very quiet at the moment… I only made it last night lol
This is why i’m just popping around a few sites at the moment… just letting ppl know that the group is out there if they’d like to give it a look
I’m under no illusion that the group will be massive, nor will it ever compete with dedicated websites… but like I said, I hope it’s somthing that’s a little different in its format, & with any luck, a friendly community can be built
i quite agree with you about forgehub, that place seems to be the main forging comunity and yet it has the worst comunity, i posted a map there as a preview 2 days ago and still waiting to see if i get feedback while other people posting after me get feedback all most straight away which leads me to beleive they just favoritise people over others, some of the feedback i’ve seen there i’m less then impressed with aswell.
xforgery is ok, the comunity is pretty nice all be it abit slow but with the events and such makes it a good place to meet other people who are intersted in forge and get a good reputation started.
forge cafe is a bungie.net group, it’s a good place to get people to see your maps and get some alright feedback and to meet new people again.
forever forgers i don’t realy like, i was a member with them for a few weeks and my maps got ignored while people talked about screenshots constantly, i confronted them on this because they advertise themselfs as a forge group and they fogged me off with a stupid excuse “maps take months to make and get finnished”, all though they’re right, people post maps early on the get feedback and to improve on.
blueprint is a bungie.net group and satyros is a halocharts group, they are both the same sort of group because they have the same goals, the feedback you get from them is good quality and can be relied upon to help improve your maps and a chance to get in to matchmaking.
reachingperfection, well i don’t know, the site is a personal blog of godlyperfction and his forum is based around game design and such but he does have a forge comunity going on aswell, it doesn’t really apeal to me so i can’t say much about it but the people there are just as good as blueprint and satyros.
as for yours, i wish you the best of luck, we do need some decent comunities out there and i’m also getting fed up with the arragonce and ignorance presented all over these comunities, i wouldn’t realy start over at deviant art though but that’s just my personal opinion.
Thanks very much for the good wishes
& thank you for posting up the other forge communities… I’ll be sure to check them out. As for starting up another stand-alone website for forging. I think the competition out there would just be too strong for me at the moment. I’d really need the time to make somthing like that work… & that’s somthing that I just don’t have at the moment
fair enough, i just don’t expect that many people over at deviant art that are interested in forge and i don’t think that many halo fans are intersted in that site aswell.
my opinion though.
may be a little off topic but im not to pleased with the community in forgehub, the moderaters are generous and kind but the community are quick to how should i say, blame or otherwise scuff certain maps. was banned from there for 6 months for repeated postings of “scawled at maps” dont blame the moderaters as 90 % of them are really nice, but sticlers for rules. xforgery has a more leinant and open arms view point that i admire. same with waypoint forums. and halo4ger though halo4ger is a new comer that i hope to help further grow.
Either way i say if you want to start up a forge group ill join, though outside of web postings i generally work alone, freelancer style.
Thank you very much for you comment
As I said, I know there are bigger & much better dedicated sites out there. It’s just that I know there is a big fanbase on dA for Halo… Not only fanart & fanfic, but also screen shots & various other manipulations. So in short, dA has a lot of Halo gamers. So even if just some of them join & post up their maps, then the group will be off to a fair crack of the whip
I’ve also post some of my non forge related forum tags in the group as well… these as ever are free to use. But only the ones that have been made by me lol
