Halo Forge Maps And Why you should be grateful

It may look “Cheap and Lazy” but you are completely correct on how it looks very plain and like Halo 1 textures.

BUT

The scale and complexity of what you can do/build is on the tier of Halo CE through Halo 4

you have the power to create maps IN GAME that took devs with state of the art tech in 2001 to create but with more features and tweaks.

this is the most powerful forge to date.

in the Halo Live stream they mention there would be more skins and textures coming they just want to get the base forge system out and see what we can do with it

there will be lighting effects and 360 doppler sound effects you can add

you are essentially building maps from the ground up with the tools available to most devs

as an amateur forger i am super excited to remake some old H1 maps that i enjoyed

But to us non-Forgers, these maps are pretty disappointing because BTB should have beautiful maps like the Warzone maps.

textures and visuals should not affect gameplay

i mean guillotine looks like goddam super mario lego land but it plays soooo smooth and beautifully with the new movement mechanics

Basin and Deadlock look amazing as far as the landscape, the bases look pretty much like the bases in H3 and H1

It’s so embarrassing. I want to get my friends back into Halo but I don’t even try because I’m afraid they’ll ask why there’s no real BTB maps for a brand new $60 Halo.

That was 14 years ago. I have hardware that is orders of magnitude more powerful than was in the consoles of 14 years ago. That’s not okay.

I like the forge maps, but I just wish they weren’t the only maps in BTB.

Doesn’t matter. This shows 343i just rushed out BTB to make us happy. They shoved these Forge maps in our faces and said “Okay okay here’s your BTB maps now leave us adults to our work”
I like Deadlock and Basin, but Recurve and Guillotine look horrendous and it’s sad to see 343i doesn’t care enough to make real maps. They just hired a team to make maps in Forge.

I am grateful, but just kind of annoyed that we keep having to tell these guys how to make a halo game

my point is we have the capabilities IN game to generate maps that took state of the art dev equipment and programs a decade a go to make

to make dev maps at the current quality requires the software and programs that are too big and expensive to ship out to everyone for free

These map editors have been available on PC for decades now. The phrase you’re looking for is “consoles have been too crappy to handle editors until now due to hardware and input issues”, and quite frankly, the xbone is no more powerful than a 4 year old PC. You can’t even make that claim.

To your point about recurve, Recurve is too crowded with objects. It hurts the flow of players. Way too much stuff in the middle of the map. And lighting in the map is the worst of any map I have ever seen in any game.

Yeah actually I recently noticed that when trying to drive a Scorpion through the narrow roads. Not good for tanks :stuck_out_tongue:

Instead of it being a BTB map its more like a big Small team map. It really is. Vehicles of any kind should not even be on the map or they should resize the map to allow for multiple vehicles to pass thru most areas at the same time. Also, it should not have one freaking tank. It should have one at each end or none at all. Mantises would work much better on that map.

Sweet, but you should do some original stuff and show your creativity and thought on balance and dynamic map design. Everyone does the remakes, plus the H1 maps aren’t that great, many being unbalanced and very limited.

i do have some originals but they are fun/social themed

not really a fan of making competitive maps

I only own this giant, black, matter-of-degrees-away-from-literally-flaming piece of garbage for Halo. If it were on PC, I’d buy it in an instant and upload a video of myself taking a dump on this console as proof of discarding it.

i mean halo CE and 2 were on PC and were loads of fun

i love consoles more since i dont have the money to sink into a decent gaming PC

my point is the console capabilities are coming along nicely and in order to mass produce and sell them at a price suitable for all incomes they need to compromise the hardware capabilities for cost

if consoles were on par with PCs as far as power we would probably be paying $2500 for them

Why exactly should I be grateful that 343 is making maps that the community can and will create on their own? They should be making superior maps with their own dev tools and let us handle Forge. Withholding Forge from us doesn’t make this ok.

If we could just select textures for the pieces we wouldn’t have this problem, simply making walls have a concrete texture instead of slate grey would go a long way to make forge maps not look quite as crappy.
