Halo Figure Model Painting Project

Good evening everybody.

Sorry to the people in the Post Your Screenshots thread of this area of the forum as I haven’t been around lately. This post should show why, and it’s a good reason. Also, this thread will show off a completed a new Halo-Themed project, a model painting project to be precise  . The paint itself changes colors in the prescence of a black light.

The repainted gold/fluorescent Orange repainted Elite Ultra by itself was an old artwork that I initially called ‘Dedication To Bungie LLC’. Unfortunately, Bungie didn’t seem to care about the artwork I created when I submitted it to them via email and facebook and never even gave me a reply. I turned an old project though into a much better, revised and new artwork.

The Elite Ultra had to be touched up, as apparently, a safe won’t protect from wear and tear as I initially thought. It also had several coats of clear Krylon Fusion applied to lock in the metallic paint, which for some odd reason remained sticky after drying, even though I used a primer, so the ‘brass’ metallic paint may have been bad. The Krylon Fusion idea came from a good friend from Philadelphia PA who works with real car paint (even candy colors) named Henry, so thank you Henry for the great idea.

If you take notice, with this Elite is a battle damaged Sentinel, which is all new. I was able to create the ‘plasma damaged’ battle damaged look by burning parts of the sentinel with a child-safe lighter on certain angles. The energy sword damage was easy, as I heated up metal on a gas stove, and cut two of the Sentinel’s appendages, and then left a huge gash in it’s side, to make the sentinel look as if the Elite ultra hit it with it’s new energy sword.

If you take notice on the Sentinel, the battle damaged parts have been painted silver and shades of blue. This adds additional emphasis of being hit with an energy sword. The Sentinel’s eye is red. This is not a ‘didact controlled’ sentinel, but rather a rampant one.

You will also take notice to the new base both figures are on. Both figures were JB Welded to the base. Reason being is because it is a base to a display case, where both figures can be protected now indefinately. The trick to cover up the fact I did this was easy. I applied a primer to the JB Weld once it was dry and solid, and after that dryed, I applied several coats of reflective black model paint. The base became dusty looking after applying the clear Krylon Fusion, which covered up the spots even more.

I hope that the people of the Halo Waypoint forums and the good people at 343 Industries appreciates this artwork. Feedback is appreciated. I would love to hear what people think. As for 343, thank you for all the awesome stuff you have brought to us upto this point. This artwork is dedicated to you, and hopefully, unlike Bungie, you are more appreciative of it. Enjoy  .

Really cool. Even as just a hand-painted model it’d be awesome, but the glowing bits with the black light is a really wicked touch. I’d certainly buy one if they were available. I’m curious what other bomb creations could be made with that type of paint; Do you have any other work, or are you working on more models?

I’d imagine a Jackal’s shield could look mighty impressive.

I actually do happen to have other works on my DeviantArt account, which you can view here. Unfortunately, the other figures that have been previously completed will also need touchups, as keeping them in a safe didn’t prevent some paint from scratching off, which I dunno why. When I get around to touching them up however, I will be able to do something new with them, as they will also go in display cases.

As for new models, I do happen to have an idea in mind using a Halo 3 McFarlane Toys Hayabusa with Katana and 343 Guilty Spark from one of the 10 Years of Halo collection. I am also working on one of my friend’s Halo: Reach spartan. Unfortunately Testors non-metallic model paints aren’t as good as Model Masters model paints, and it is taking quite some time due to all the layering I have to do. 5-10 layers with Testors compared to 2 with Model Masters.

As for the fluorescent colors, they work very well if you intend to display such pieces in the prescence or around a black light, as they will glow rather brightly. As for metallic colors, they will turn dark blue. I don’t happen to have a Jakcal Figure, however, I do have a Skirmisher with mini shields. I never thought of a repaint job for it.

Some of these are just incredible, great work and dedication guys!
