Halo Fall Of Reach Editions Question

Hey guys, I know it’s kind of sad, but I never really got the chance to read Fall of Reach till now (I had a huge backlog of other books) But I recently got the audiobook from my library and I like to read along with a physical copy of the book (I’m weird I know) I am aware that there have been some changes between the original release and the re- releases in 2010 and 2011. Three questions:

  1. Those of you who have read both versions will it be a BIG problem trying to listen to the audio of the old 2001 book while reading the new version (meaning will whole sections be different?)

  1. I WILL be buying one of the new releases just because I want to read the extra content and take note of the changes, but I was wondering what the big differences are between the 2010 release and the 2011 “Definitive Edition” Release.

  2. Can someone post the isbns of the 2010 and 2011 editions that are the bigger versions (not the 6.5 in length the 8 in)

This Size

Not This Size (I know this is 2001 couldn’t find a picture of the small 2010 or 2011 but Barnes and Noble has those not the big versions)

Thanks for any help!

There is not much difference between the two newest versions. I think the definite just fixed some spellign mistakes, fixing dates and such

The new one had date errors still.

That sucks :open_mouth: Soo whats the difference then? Im getting the difinite very soon, along with a bunch of other halo fiction

Minor stuff.

In the original book the Spartans mention how the Covenant ship has Artificial Gravity and Dr. Halsey would be very interested in such information because the UNSC does not have Artificial Gravity.

In the reprint that line is cut out entirely because other novels as well as Halo Wars establishes that the UNSC does indeed have Artificial Gravity technology.

So I should go for the definitive edition and I should be able to read a listen without a HUGE issue?

There is a new version out called the Definitive Edition. The dates have been corrected. Aside from the adjunct there is little to no new information.

Ok so Definitive it is but can someone who owns a copy post the isbn number for the big version so I don’t accidently buy the small one. Thanks!

I think both paperback editions has been fixed.

The one with “The Definitive Edition” label is the mass paperback one (it’s smaller), I think that’s it.

After all, I’ve bought the first one digital edition and there was no date mistakes or something like that…

I’m almost positive the definitive also had a big version as the image above has shown.

> I’m almost positive the definitive also had a big version as the image above has shown.

As indicated in amazon.com, the mass paperback with Definitive Edition label (6.5 x 4.1 x 1.4 inches) is smaller than the other one (8 x 5.5 x 1.2 inches).

Ok so I’ll go with 2010 but just one last quam i’m having of where to buy, why does walmart say 380, and amazon say 416 pages

> I’m almost positive the definitive also had a big version as the image above has shown.

It does; I saw it in a Barnes & Noble just yesterday. It’s possible (I haven’t checked) that they share an ISBN, and thus wouldn’t have a separate listing on Amazon.

alright then can someone please see if they can find and ISBN and show proof it’s the bigger edition please. Thanks for all your help guys!

When I went the other day I could only see the small version.

I have the orbit orginal and have bought the definitive edition thinking it was the best out the lot

Can someone please show proof either an online place to buy the definitive in big edition or the isbn?

This is what Amazon says about the bigger one:

Product DetailsPaperback: 416 pages
Publisher: Tor Books; Second Edition edition (August 3, 2010)
Language: English
**ISBN-10:**0765328321 ASIN: B004P5ONZO
Product Dimensions: 8.5 x 5.6 x 1.3 inches

And this about “The Definitive Edition” one:

Product DetailsMass Market Paperback: 448 pages
Publisher: Tor Books; First Edition edition (June 28, 2011)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0765367297 ISBN-13: 978-0765367297
Product Dimensions: 6.5 x 4.1 x 1.4 inches

As you can see, the bigger one has been released twice before The Definitive Edition. The bigger one came out as a first edition but received a second edition, that’s what I mean, before releasing The Definitive Edition.

That Second edition on the first one has the same fixes as the latter Definitive edition, the only thing that will change is the format of the book but no more.

I have the digital version of the bigger one since day one and it has been upgraded when the revision of the bigger one was out and doesn’t have any mistakes anymore.

Most likely they just added The Deffinitive Edition label on the Mass Paperback edition to match First Strike’s, but no more.

And has more pages because it’s smaller. The ISBN is normal since they are different books, the same content, but they are differents books after all for publishers and imprint.

> Most likely they just added The Deffinitive Edition label on the Mass Paperback edition to match First Strike’s, but no more.

As I said earlier, I have seen a trade paperback edition with the Definitive Edition label. I even checked to see whether the incorrect dates in the chapter headings (specifically 2542 where it should have said 2552) had been fixed, and they had.Fett, why not go to an actual store and see what you can find?

As I said, they have been fixed in the second edition of the paperback version. I bought the paperback’s digital edition and got upgraded when the second edition came out and got those mistakes fixed, and that was long before seeing that The Definitive Edition mass paperback edition.

Okay, we seem to be saying some of the same things only I’m misreading yours a touch (your bit about the format change specifically confused my brain for some reason).

I’m saying I’ve seen exactly what he wants, only Amazon doesn’t seem to have a separate listing, which means if he orders from there it’s possible he could get either the 2010 or 2011 edition. (Used to work there, we’d come across slightly different products with the same identification codes from time to time. Problematic in situations such as this.)
