Can anyone explain to me why the heck there are covenant remnant troops on the first covenant ship humanity encountered?
Cuz its a time warp.
Artistic License
lol k,
artistic license is way more important than lore of course…
They put 3 odsts instead of 4 WTF?
Storm was an Elite rank in the old Covenant Empire as well, so I didn’t think it was that big of an issue. I think what some people are more upset about is the fact that the Unggoy were equipped with harnesses that had the tube connected to their noses instead of the standard breather.
If I remember correctly, there were comments in Halo 4 that Cortana makes saying that the Covenant Remnant armor seems old or outdated. I would think the Covenant Remnant would be stuck using whatever they had on hand since they don’t have the supplies or resources of the original Covenant, so it would stand to reason that it would be easier to get more “outdated” gear.
That or it was probably an art style choice similar to the Spartan IIs having different helmets despite the fact that Mark IV all looked the same in the books

Yeah. That mask didn’t come into service until after the Human-Covenant War. So it makes no sence to be there. Plus the armor redesign. I mean really, why? We already know the the first Mk IV looks like from Halo Wars, so why try to change it?

Being the devil’s advocate here, this one is pretty much like Halo Wars’ Mark IV, just a bit rounded, which fits with the Spartans’ back-then young bodies and the artistic style of the series.

the halo wars mark IV still looks better.it’s not the animation style they used that bugs me but that they deliberately decided to use all the 343 art style, while it would fit way better if they used the stuff which would make a lot more sense and not raise unnecessary questions. A lot of you probably don’t care about this I know, but it’s important to me
Halo Wars Mk IV had energy shields if we’re being picky.
I think we can just chalk the variations in Covenant armour to how big the Covenant is. Unless they have the greatest supply system in the universe there will be differences between individuals/units/ships/fleets.
There are canonically multiple versions of MK-IV, we know at least 3 (possibly 4 now). Halsey’s journal mentions she only moved to the MK-V+ because ONI wanted better documentation. It’s why you have MK-IV for neerly 30 years and then they spit out like 2 new version + GEN II and MKVII in like 8 months.
But yes, the grunts are annoying. I wish they didn’t give so many descriptions of these things being “new” if they planned to use them earlier.
Elites are explained as the pre-existing storm ranks, nor is it impossible that lone, really terribly piloted ship with no sense of strategy wasn’t one of the outer elite colonies.

Canon is important to me as well, but Halo Wars’ Mark IV hasn’t been overriden by this animated series. Don’t worry.

Only in gameplay. Mk IV did not have energy shielding.
343 values artistic licence over visual integrity of the lore. There is a core idea how things should look ( Grunts have methane tanks and act funny etc) but how they are presented isn’t static. 343 has defended this by saying aliens have all individual characteristics and wear wide range of armors but in games only one or two selected are presented. So it may not be breaking canon but it still feels… well I don’t like it.
Also what is the point of S2’s wearing same armors in canon if we never see that happening. I hate this but kinda understand reasoning behind it.

well that’s what I mean. it’s not canon breaking, but it raises these awkward explanations as to why the covenant pre-reach look the same as post h3, just so 343 can use their artistic idea.
I’ve been honestly disappointed by the 3 part series, due tot he fact that it ends when the Spartans get their Mjolnir armor, and the destruction of the first Covenant ship. It never even touched on the “FALL” of the colony world Reach, how it happened, or anything else. If anything, this was all the preamble to the fall of reach. I’m really pissed right now on a few facts…
- Only 3 episodes
- The story is seriosuly flawed compared to the novel, in several aspects.
- It never shows the actual FALL of Reach
- No mention of the Pillar of Autumn
- No mention of the Sigma Octanus system incursion, or the attack on Cote de Azur
- No mention of any of the events after Sigma Octanus
The novel has so much more to it. It’s super disappointing.
