so i was reading fall of reach (2001), for like the 3rd time and saw a few threads speaking of canon issue and that got me thinking about the fact that i have not gotten around to reading the fall of reach (2010). Soooo im asking what are the difference’s between the two books? which is considered canon?? and should i pick up the 2010 version for a read?
The Definitive Edition (2010) is more “up to date”, meaning that it has been retconned so that it is more in line with other canon elements, so I highly recommend purchasing that version (even if there are still plenty of other discrepancies). There is also extra content at the end of the book.

Amazon has several copies … they don’t all say “Definitive Edition” in the description, but it says it on the cover. And they’re very cheap ($5 US dollars) so you’ll probably be mostly paying for shipping.
I got a copy for my Kindle, so there was no hassle.

It’s all canon, with the exception of Odd One Out.

Pretty much this, Odd One Out is the “Odd One Out”. lol
The new version would be the new standard of canon now as it is the most up to date. The book fixes a few obvious discrepencies, such as the Elites being met for the first time at Reach when obviously other canon says otherwise. Examples…
Halo: The Fall of Reach (2001) Page 242
“We believe there is a ‘race’ of field commanders, which we are currently calling ‘elites.’”
Halo: The Fall of Reach (2010) Page 275
“We also know that there is a ‘race’ of field commanders we have historically called ‘Elites.’”
Another example is the UNSC’s use of artificial gravity. Originally they didn’t have it and the Spartans made note of this when they boarded a Covenant ship and discovered it had artificial gravity. Their observation is removed from the current book.
Halo: First Strike also has a few modifications to it. A line by Doctor Halsey is added explaining she knows more about the attack on Reach than the Spartans do, because of her appearance in Halo Reach. They also remove the line saying they never heard of a “Brute” before because modern canon says otherwise.
In addition to these small changes, there are Adjunct sections added to the end of each book. They are a collection of documents and letters explaining different or new parts of the Halo Universe. Some include Admiral Cole’s interrogation of an Elite captive, a letter from Captain Keyes giving an update on the Pillar of Autumn’s refit which also expresses his frustration at keeping the attack on Reach a secret from his crew and there is a document explaining the details of “Winter Contingency”.

idk i never did read it, i heard it was mix between how it was lame or it was really great. so yea idk i might give it a read i heard chief flips a warthog in it lol
