Halo Discord Ban Appeal Thread

My official ban reason is “You have been banned on Halo For: Inappropriate/political comments.”
— 07/14/2020

I didn’t know there was an appeals process to this which is why I have taken so long to appeal. To give my account of events, this was at the time the Sirens emblem was supposed to be added to MCC. I was looking forward to wearing it because I enjoyed the Halo 3 ODST campaign and they had military police helping your ODST in certain missions.

When I found out the Sirens emblem was removed due to being ‘problematic’, I went to the Discord to ask what was problematic about it and I was told it was because it represented police and police were problematic. I thought this was somewhat unreasonable to claim this, especially as Halo MCC has multiple political emblems with one having the BLM fist and another with a knuckleduster and blood splatters was branded on twitter as the “Kill all Police” emblem, which was still added by 343i

I received overwhelming support from members of the community for bringing this up and was invited to multiple Halo Discords, however I’m guessing it must’ve annoyed someone on the admin team as I was banned without any warning about 20 minutes after the event. I make content on my channel for Halo to promote the game and to bring new players in, however when moderators will ban you for simply supporting police? Nah, that ain’t right.

Whilst I am quite political in real life, I try to keep politics out of my gaming experience, which is why I find it annoying that I was more or less banned for asking for politics to stay out of Halo. Just because someone dislikes your opinion, doesn’t give them the right to silence you.

I don’t really have anything to directly tell the moderators other than I understand how difficult it can be to moderate a server, but currently the server has turned into a laughing stock because if you say anything remotely right leaning, you’re banned without warning. They need a team of impartial members to decide upon each case, however reading some of the reasons here it seems like some of the reasons people are banned are so ridiculous I’m surprised there are any members left. I only wish to join back to promote my own content and receive Halo Updates.

Looking into your ban, I think you are mischaracterizing the nature of your ban a bit. You were not banned for asking for politics to stay out of Halo or for simply supporting police. You were banned for comments that misrepresented the BLM movement and progressed a false narrative that BLM is an anti-white, anti-police movement that seeks violence on those groups.

Without the original comments I cannot talk about what was allegedly said. I would need the original comments to either prove if what I said was right or as you say, misinformation. However, you have made the claim that BLM being anti-white (which I would have to see the original comments to see if I said this or if it’s mistranslated) and anti-police is a misrepresentation and a false narrative.

I suggest you actually look at the speeches made by BLM co-founders as they have said multiple times to defund and abolish the police and prisons. I know you won’t however from a quick Google search I was able to find articles proving BLM are anti-police. For example, Patrisse Cullors, a BLM co-founder, called on Biden to approve far-left legislation which would abolish the police, the legislation being the BREATH act.

On the BLM website you can find videos where they talk about defunding the police.

July 6, 2020 - https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-defunding-the-police-really-means/**We know that police don’t keep us safe — and as long as we continue to pump money into our corrupt criminal justice system at the expense of housing, health, and education investments — we will never be truly safe.**That’s why we are calling to #DefundPoliceTo make that claim that BLM aren’t anti-police when they state that police don’t keep people safe and to call the criminal justice system corrupt, well that seems pretty anti-police to me.

As far as Anti-white, whilst there are recorded instances of BLM and Antifa attacking people based on their political beliefs and skin colour, it’s something which I would be unlikely to write as explaining the complexities with combating racism and how groups like BLM can actually inspire more racism, well I’d rather get into that debate over voice chat as people can get confused and come to the conclusion I am against things like equality when I support equality greatly.

Like I said, I don’t want politics in games. I don’t like to see 343i make nameplates which are branded over twitter as “kill all police”, or to release nameplates for groups which riot for most of 2020. I am still entitled to my political beliefs, however I digress.

If the rules state you cannot be political in the Discord server, then I won’t be. I find it hypocritical that 343i will add political nameplates to the game, however I won’t make political comments again. I have already faced a year ban which should be more than enough, especially saying I had no warnings prior. I’ve already gone through a few sources to back my political opinion, and I would hope that you respect my political views and understand that the access to the server allows me to publish content out to more people and support the games 343i makes.

As I said, I want to keep politics out of games, so I won’t go further into this.

Your ban will not be overturned

I received a warning But when I was typing another topic about the Original Halo’s the discord suddenly disappeared and I got Banned For: Discriminatory comments. I don’t recall saying anything besides gay. - Clarification on why? I received one warning then just randomly got banned. I didn’t say anything else besides word above. Only once

That’s why you were banned, using “gay” as a pejorative isn’t cool and isn’t tolerated. Your ban won’t be overturned at this point

I typed it in a random halo channel and got banned. I want to make amends and just enjoy the halo server. I am kinda completely in the wrong here, and I apologize completely for my ignorance.

Banned for “ratzi profile photo” a few years ago, was ninja in an ss outfit if I remember correctly
Profile photo is now Kiryu from Yakuza smoking a cigarette

You may post your appeal in this thread; Your appeal should contain the following information

  • The banned account’s tag: Oopsiewoopsie#8925 (Current name) or HowardKKD#8925 (Name at the time of the ban) - Your hidden ID#: 769014030093778955 - Your version of events: Tell us what happened in your own words. What happened? When was it? We’d rather you be honest and upfront about your reasons than beat around the bush. Honestly I don’t remember what I did or when I did it as I tried to join the server after a friend invited me but it said I was banned. If I had to make an educated guess I’d say I probably made inflammatory statements against other users or was an -Yoink-. If you can tell me the ban reason I can add further comments. - Additional info you want the appeals team to know: I just wanna talk to talk about Halo and mainly Halo Infinite. I hadn’t even played any of the games until last week when I no-lifed the whole series and found a new appreciation for the series so I just wanna be included in the community.

Certain actions are particularly egregious in nature and result in an instant removal from the server. Having -Yoink!- imagery in your profile pic is one such action. Your ban was just over 1 year ago, so I’m not sure if the admins will think enough time has passed.

None of the information you provided (hidden ID or username) returned any record of having been part of the Halo server at any time. Are you sure you have listed the correct info?

The tag at the end of my user changed a few times, but that hidden ID is definitely the right one, did the steps in that link. I was definitely in the server before because when I join from an invite link it states that I’m banned. It’s alright if you can’t let me back in the server though

This was a while ago but my friend Was over and decided it would be funny to change my name to something offensive, I didn’t know at the time and was talking in the discord server as that name, as soon as I noticed and started typing “Oops, my name” I got immediately banned, I didn’t even get a chance to explain myself, I would’ve done this sooner but I thought it was something like a term ban but people have been saying that it’s a ’ one and done ’ deal and they didn’t get warnings either and was a ban. I hope this clears things up.

Ultimately you are responsible for your account and what happens with it, even if you’re not the one causing trouble. It’s up to you to make sure your account is secure and that nobody can access it. Your tag was changed to not only a racist slur, but spelled in a way to purposefully bypass our moderations filters. That’s not something you can explain away and certainly not something that’s tolerated. Racism isn’t funny.

My advice to you is to get better friends.

I would’ve changed it immediately but I don’t pay attention to my name 24/7 and it wasn’t at all intentional to anyone, is there anything I can do in my situation?

I went back and looked at your history in the server.

In addition to the name in question, you also had some inappropriate/questionable posts/comments and other pretty inappropriate usernames.

Your ban will not be lifted at this time.

Hello,
May I please be unbanned from the halo server. I accidentally said the f word when trying to say “fat” (context: I was talking about halo infinite multiplayer and tried to use the phrase “trimming the fat” when comparing it to halo 5) I am sorry for unintentionally saying that word. I will take measures that ensure this wont happen again.

Hi, I’m posting here because soon after I woke up today I found out I was banned from the Discord. The third/final strike that cause the ban happened yesterday. Someone had reacted to a post with the letters s, e, and x and I upvoted them. To be honest at the time there was a part of me that thought, maybe I should undo those upvotes, but then I figured if the reactions were there for that long then it must be ok. I realize it was a stupid thing to do. I’m sorry. As far as the other two strikes. They were from a while ago so I can’t remember clearly, but according to the bot that sends the strike info, one of them was making a comment of the similar nature. After that first strike I didn’t say anything that could be inappropriate anymore. I could be wrong, but I think the second strike was for sending a link to the ForgeHub discord or some other Halo-related discord server, because that is one of the other things in the bot’s messages to me. Obviously, I didn’t have any malintent with that. I checked to make sure there wasn’t a rule against linking to other discord servers, and after my message got deleted I apologized.

I understand that the three things I did were against the rules, but none of the things I did were targeting anyone or being demeaning towards any people or groups. And if that Discord server link strike was from the Halo server, then that wasn’t even against the written rules. After the first strike I got I made sure not to make any inappropriate comments again, and I’d just like to say that unlike a lot of people requesting unbans on this thread, nothing I did was racist or meant to harass anyone or anything of the sort. I just made or upvoted a couple mildly-inappropriate jokes. I love Halo and I enjoy talking on the Discord server, I’ll make sure not to say anything of the sort if I get unbanned. I just really don’t want to be banned forever from the official server because of those things I listed.
