No I would think “Hey these things look cool, let me see in game what it’s all about.” Then use my eyes to see what is free and what isn’t. And proceed to purchase what I want and don’t purchase what I don’t want.
Like the Mister Chief AI, it’s pretty dope IMO. Hilarious too.
Commercial releases
“Oh wowu can’t wait to play the tenrai event next week and get that cool spiffy purple visor”
“Oh it’s not in the pass? I can pay $20 for it though?”
“Alls well that ends well :)”
This comment knocked me out of my chair. So your problem is that literally everything in the trailer should be free, even in the section where they said “new store cosmetics”???
Personally? I would play the game and look at the event items I can earn or look it up for clarification online somewhere.
The 1:11 run time trailer doesn’t show off the entire “30 tier” event tree after all, but also specifies that there are premium options available as well but doesn’t really allude to what they are.
Either way, some of what the trailer shows off is outdated with the reintroduction of Tenrai as some of the premium content was moved to the free side of things.
Just a little fun fact of advertisement history with Halo, originally the AKIS helmet (then known as GRD) was shown off in promo pictures as a part of the Defiant Map Pack DLC for Halo Reach but was cut due to time constraints as well as the inability to add new armors without changing install file of the game. Nobody raised any fuss about this though.
What’s amazing is people paying fractions of the single player campaign, a labor of hours and hours upon hours that costs $60, they’re spending $20 of it for colors and glasses.
But then being okay with it. That’s crazy. *Amazing
You got it buddy and I’m one of them. I’ve got disposable income and anytime I see whiny little comments like yours on this forum, I break open my wallet and I buy $20 Cherry Blossom Petals that shoot out of my repulsor.
Okay, so because of your disposable income you can look cool, I can’t. Sick? I bought $100 worth of credits and preordered the campaign, was my first halo hype. I still have those credits because the shop is so ridiculous.
Since this is just gonna end up as a “buy if you want, don’t buy if you don’t want” scenario- I say to you, look at the past games. Look what features those shipped with. Look at what people liked about them.
And tell me how infinite is doing any of it better. You know, tight controls aside.
I love how all these awful hot takes in the forums are people borderline demanding that 343 pays US to play their game. Wild. Clearly F2P was a bad choice, not because of the shop, but because it attracted a ton of underaged and/or unemployed players that never experienced a F2P game before, and don’t understand how money works in the real world. 343 is never going to pay us to play their game. It’s free to PLAY, not free to OWN EVERYTHING.
There will be 10 years of service, game modes, events, cores, cosmetics, etc, that will be free, but that’s only going to cover 1/3 of the cosmetics. You are still able to PLAY for free, without ever paying a cent, and experience everything but the Campaign and PREMIUM cosmetics. In due time, the game will have as much free content as a base Halo game. 10 years is a long time. You won’t get it right away, but by the end of service, you should have more free cosmetics than you had in past paid titles.
Right now I could spin up a new account and pay $0.00 and have a complete multiplayer experience from start to finish. Get free cosmetics and some sick looking samurai armor. And whenever they release new maps, new game modes, or literally any new content at all, I won’t be locked behind a paywall.
If the tradeoff for this is that people complain on the forums because they don’t want to spend money on cat ears or cherry blossoms, but any person could theoretically play the game without spending a dime? Yeah this is a good thing.
I could spin up a new account on runescape for free and have more content to play than I know what to do with. Halo? Fiesta = Tenrai. BTB? Good luck. Quick play? Same 4 map rotation. Ranked? Good luck.
Like.
Look at the game, the gameplay, the modes-
Look at previous games, the gameplay, the modes- The customization-
To advocate for $13 pink snail trails because we have an oh so great f2p experience?
We haven’t been playing the same game.
This whole, “we have ten YEARS of content coming!”
What about the last 6? Why wait 6 years to get nickled and dimed and then defend the 6 years it took to release what we can currently play?
Do you guys just play halo, or have you played other games?
They made freakin’ borderlands 3 in 7 years and that game (while believe you me, it has it’s issues) has way more content to show for it, even pre DLC.
They made AC: Odyssey in 3 years.
Hell of a lot more content in that game.
It does not add up. I don’t care if you have the money and want to buy this stuff or not, I’m saying you’re getting jipped and I’m getting called crazy because it’s a ‘live-service’ ‘f2p’ game.
Like look at every other f2p or live service game and look how they monetize. It doesn’t always have to be egregious.
