I don’t understand the latching onto ‘specific’ points like this when the sentiment is pretty well laid out. Like specifying “Maybe not you specifically, but let’s not pretend your side of the discussion isn’t without it’s toxic people” just reminds me of the articles you two were referencing- Like they’re charging $20 for a pink trail and 4 of the same-but-different emblems.
Game was in development for 4-6 years.
There’s games out there that:
[different genres don’t matter. Look at the end product and what the content is. Everything in a game takes time to make. Bigger games have been made in shorter amounts of time, across ALL genres, with more stuff to unlock and do in, on way tighter budgets]
I understand this is a live service game. I understand they need and deserve money for the product.
All I’m saying is there was a better way to do this, and all of those ways could have been inspired/taken/ripped from the last 7 games.
See the difference is there are way more gamers than there are niche collectors. Like I don’t bash pokemon card collectors for spending $400 on a rainbow charizard, because I don’t collect nor do I play.
That’s why I’m here!
Your other point about a disney souvenir cup, Disneyworld/land isn’t in my home. It’s not on my PC. Halo isn’t something you vacation to and spend $20 on a sip cup! Or, it shouldn’t be, imo
You’d be willing to spend that much on a notepad paper with whatever shapes I draw as long as I get a licensing agreement from a brand you like?
That’s ridiculous.
If the art is good (I.e. my taste), limited run, and had a certificate of authenticity of some sort, then yea… I’d consider that a collectors item.
I have actual limited run Hand drawn posters for HW2 and Borderlands that I paid a few hundred dollars for at the time they were released, and I occasionally see them listed for 4-5x what I paid on eBay and StockX. So like the resale value is there if I needed it to be.
Granted I am fully aware that I cannot resell a cosmetic from the store without selling my entire account, so it isn’t in the same vein. But in your example you’re talking about a tangible item.
When slivers made a comeback in legions back in 2003, I sold my entire tempest sliver collection for upwards of $12,000. Not a bad haul for a teenager, especially since they weren’t technically legal for play either.
I’ve since given up on selling my collectibles though, not finding myself strapped for cash like I was back then.
I own the campaign, and have payed the $8 for the battle pass. And so far I have more armor customization options then any prior Halo game. It took Halo 5 many months/years to start getting on the cosmetic train, and as a player that didn’t pay for REQ packs… my options in that game are still limited.
In Infinite, I already have 3 cores, with 15(?) slots of customization each. And compared to BP from other games, I find Infinites to be pretty dang good. Instead of getting a mountain of secondary customization (such as player icons and such), there is a ton of mix and match armor pieces. While also having 5 or 6 full character skins from Noble Team.
With that said, I would still like to see some improvements. Like:
-More weapon/vehicle skins
-Rework of how shaders work, so that we have an option to pick secondary and primary colors
-All shaders should be universal
-A “new player experience” system that unlocks a 4th armor set, and a handful of free cosmetics
-Rework challenge system
Personally, I much prefer the spot we are in with H:I then Halo 5. And I feel that give the game time to go through another season or two, and we will have a whole pile of customization options. Especially once we start seeing updates to the map list and game modes.
$20 pink trail, $20 suit AI.
That’s egregious!
Ope, didn’t see that this was on this thread lol, getting my wires crossed. Yeah I just want freedom of choice in my cosmetics and not need 4 ‘different but same’ emblems/colors.
For me it’s not just the price, but what you get for the price. Like if I buy a $20 skin in league of legends it’s gonna look pretty unique and is a whole set/costume of effects for the champion.
In this, ONE of those effects are being sold for $20. That’s the just… That’s what really is getting me. Like if it was $20 for a SET of armor with unique pieces/color-(that could be applied to every core, ideally)- and maybe added a trail effect- Sure.
But man, $20 for JUST the trail? In other games they give you more in my experience.
Yea, and I don’t disagree at all. And hopefully enough people are holding out on making these purchases.
I would also love to see 343 start doing some sales and such. Even once a season would be neat! The “$20” price point has become so standard, it would be nice to see what the market would do if they had a week where a handful of items were 50-75% off.
While the $20 price point feels too steep to me as well, for $10, or $5? I would have likely made a purchase or two at this point.
I’m still waiting for a white primary and pink secondary type of skin but alas maybe ill never get one but bet only way I’m getting one is threw that store unfortunately
