Halo continuity (new trailer)

Halo is a wonderfull big universe with dozens of games and books and respect the continuity between all of this game can be difficult, but there is a lot of problem that could have been avoided.

The last Halo infinite season 1 trailer show events from 2552 during the earth invasion in Halo 3, and they show us brutes dressing like in Halo infinite, using weapon from Halo infinite, then Spartan with Halo infinite armor !

Before this, there was Halo wars who show us Spirit using gravity lift and needler firing as fast as bullets.
Then Halo reach who tell a completely different stories from the book “Halo fall of reach”, now the two stories are ridiculously stitched up
Johnson who was supposed to be immune to flood but finally wasn’t
Master Chief who wake up with e new armor in Halo 4

Even in the weapon, vehicles and ship look and power change from a game to another, same thing for the gameplay. I’m tired of all this change, Halo universe is too important to don’t care about the continuity

Please go to one of the 2 threads already addressing this topic.

Heres mine

Heres Imon Spartan’s

Until there’s a write down directly from 343i, I think the safest bet is to treat the intro not as a literal canon event, but as a scene being made to demonstrate the effect Spartans have on people, except on a personal level. Think back to how the Halo 4 intro cutscene was structured as a way to quickly get across how Spartans came off as a whole for society.

In both cases, models were reused for budget reasons where convenient.

That being said, it wouldn’t be too far off to assume that our new Spartan Commander was still a teen on Earth as it was invaded and her encounter with some Spartan saviors in turn inspired her to join up. It wouldn’t be unreasonable for someone as young looking as her as some of the first few candidates into the IVs were as young as the young teens in the Battleborn arc of novels. But the finer details regarding armor, weapons, enemy and Spartan models, etc. should probably be chalked up to artistic license within means.

It’s not impossible for this event to have taken place after Halo 5. With Earth pacified by Cortana, and then her mysterious disappearance, it’s not unthinkable to say that the Banished took that opportunity to mount an offensive on Earth

If it took place after 5 than commander Laureate would still be a child.

Well to be fair we don’t know how old she was in the trailer. She could’ve been in her late teens and as of Infinite be in her early twenties. There’s no age limit for becoming a Spartan…but now that you say that I doubt she could’ve become a Commander in such a short time unless she’s a bigger badass than we think.
If anything we could just chalk it up to good ole’ fashioned artistic liberty. Mark VII was a prototype at that time and there was only ever one confirmed owner that I know of, but that’s not to say Naomi was the only Spartan ever to wear it.

I’m a lore buff myself but honestly, it was too cool of a cinematic to nitpick lol

We can’t be 100% It was earth, can we? I know we saw Big ben but given it’s the 25th century, is it? that could be a replica on any planet. Let’s say it is earth Canon is never really too important it’s a game. Things get changed over time it’s just the nature of the beast… I will say this the Brutes looked to me like they did in ODST. My memory might be a bit off with that but that’s what I remember.

If it isn’t 2552 it has to be post shadows, weeks before infinite and so a civilian to spartan commander is the easiest promotion ever.

The asset logic is fine till you consider the game has gen1 cores at launch.
MKVII was being tested in 2553 a year after the battle of earth.
The mkVI had been made standard only weeks/days before this cutscene.

The Banished don’t use stock purple type55 banshees.

Feels like a its purely to market the default armour in mp despite it being lore breaking event hough infinite aims to make our Spartans crucial to said lore.

I suppose in that case I just don’t get it. It’s sad that they would spend any time on a trailer (which, if I’m right, is basically just an add for a battlepass,) when they could have made some awesome campaign cinematic?

Everything 343 makes seems like a cash grab… it’s like someone says “hey, make a trailer that’ll make people want to buy season 1!” instead of “how can we best show off this game?”

Something to keep in mind is that assets built up from a CGI studio for pre rendered cutscenes are not the same thing as assets available in the game made by the game developers. Depending on resources for the studio making the cutscene, it could be far more economic to reuse old assets where they have them (and it appears the styling is similar to whoever had done the pre rendered Halo 4 and 5 cutscenes so it’s likely the same studio that worked on this one), and regarding new assets like the Mark VII armor and Brutes it is likely in the grand scheme of production for all the cutscenes the studio was contracted for it’s far more economical to use the newly made assets wherever possible. And if it turns out the new Brutes and Mark VII Spartans show up commonly in future cutscenes, then you can bet that it fuels the decision to use those same models with color swaps or very little for a cutscene like this in the past in order to realistically make production deadlines rather than invest in making new assets used in a single cutscene never to be reused again.

The same applies as well to live action productions as well on that note. The props made for the old Halo 3 and Reach live action shorts got a loooot of mileage for future Halo projects even if the armors, weapon, or vehicle didn’t make sense being used in early war period stuff or later on. Just got to roll with the punches in that regard.

As someone who has done pretender cutscenes.
The models used are almost invariably touch ups of game models, this is why halo 4s prologue had pre wars spartan 2s with mark6 gen one c mod.
Blur have access to all the halo 2A and halo wars 2 assets.
the assets reuse argument is a fairly weak one.
It seems this is a marketing choice to push the default mp armour and ignore continuity.
I now its not a new issue. But it was entirely avoidable considering how many assets blur have in their repertoire at this stage.

Where would the Prometheans go to? There are two guardians parked over earth,

S-IVs don’t recruit children.

The entire purpose of the S-IVs is consenting adults.

The trailer just for hype, remember this when dealing like how the prologue of H4 did it.
