Halo: Conquest by ViggThePale on DeviantArt
I conceived of this idea years ago, and to this day would still enjoy playing it. However, I am not capable of organizing the roster and schedule sufficient to sustain it. And thus, I present to you the above linked map as a proof-of-concept.
This is Halo: Conquest.
Across the mainline Halo FPS titles there are roughly two-hundred War Games environments. This map arranges most of them onto a gameboard. The original idea was to honor the canon as best as possible, but several creative liberties were necessary to account for remakes and redundancies so that the only multiplayer maps not included are Forge Canvases*, Firefight and Warzone.
How to Play
Think Risk meets Planetside, but across all of the mainline Halo FPS multiplayer maps.Halo: Conquest is a series of weekly custom game nights organized by a central body according to which players within which factions are contesting which tiles on the map. Factions are composed of self-segregated players who may split, merge, or change affiliation at will. Players may move across any adjacent game tiles occupied by their faction in order to get into a contested territory. Contests can be settled by whatever means the participating players see fit, up to and including any game-type, any number of players, and any number of games. At the end of each week the winnings are accounted for, tile occupation is advanced accordingly, and Victory Points** are dealt to each faction according to the tiles they occupy week-over-week.
That is basically as far as I’ve thought out the rules. When in doubt, the rules of Risk are a reasonable framework. The tile layout is a rough draft at best. And point values should probably be assigned to each tile individually (or to groups collectively). These are details I’d enjoy ironing out if this game should become a reality.
After I publish this, the project is no longer festering in my mind and I can move on to other things. I will not organize a project such as this. It’s too big. However, if you decide to recruit hundreds of Halo players for weekly custom game nights, let me know; I’ll definitely play.
- The Breakout Arena is the one exception to this rule, because any variant of this canvas will canonically take place in the same space; thus all Breakout variants are represented by the single Forge Canvas tile.
** Victory Points represent the relative power of factions, but because there is no planned end-game, Victory Points don’t really matter too much.
